      Employment Type: Two positions available, one Full Time – Permanent, one Limited Term - Anticipated duration 12 months

      Salary Range: SP2, Level 4, $72,080 - $90,100 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

      Reservoir Engineer – Hybrid

      The Opportunity

      The Regulatory Applications Branch of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently looking for two Reservoir Engineers to join the Subsurface Applications team. The Reservoir Engineer will evaluate and provide technical guidance and support for resource development related applications and submissions, gas removal applications, as well as rate limitation submissions. The role requires interacting with other technical professionals to review proposals, liaising with applicants, clearly articulating risks associated with each application, and making recommendations on applications.

      What your day-to-day will look like:

      • As part of a multi-disciplinary team, review and make recommendations on equity and conservation based applications for new and existing oil and gas developments. Apply risk based technical review principals to ensure applications are compliant with AER rules and regulations and ensure application timelines are met.

      • Liaise with representatives from industry, the public, and internal stakeholders during the application review process on regulatory requirements associated with oil and gas developments.

      • Lead and coordinate the review of reservoir development applications that may require the involvement of other technical disciplines, demonstrating the use of basic project management techniques and acting as the primary liaison with industry and external stakeholders.

      • Perform desktop reviews to ensure operational risks associated with the development have been mitigated.

      • Support enterprise projects by providing technical guidance and input, assisting with the implementation into our core business functions, and collaborating with stakeholders (internal and external).

      What we’re looking for in you:

      • Bachelor of Engineering degree with 3+ years of related experience in reservoir engineering or related oil and gas field of study; other technical training with equivalent levels of experience/expertise may be considered.

      • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training with APEGA is a requirement.

      • Understanding of reservoir engineering principles.

      • Understanding of Alberta’s regulatory framework, associated legislations, and enactments.
