      Job title: Resettlement & Integration Worker
      Department: Resettlement and Integration Services
      Reports to: Manager, Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project
      Hours of work: Rotating 5-hour shifts between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

      Job purpose

      The Resettlement & Integration Worker is responsible for assessing temporary resident individuals and families’ needs, providing case management support, information and referrals as well as follow up to help them resettle and navigate services in Durham.

      Using Trauma-informed and Gender-Equity approaches, the Resettlement & Integration Worker will also be responsible for updating the client database, promoting the services of the Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project, conducting outreach activities and presentations to clients that are eligible for the services. The incumbent will be required to perform educational, employment and housing-related information sessions to eligible clients.

      This position is a part-time role and will be contracted till November 15, 2023, with a possibility of extension, subject to funding.

      Duties and responsibilities

      - Perform needs assessments of clients:
      • Determine the needs of the clients and the support that is appropriate for each individual client
      - Provide services, information and guidance:
      • Provide clients with appropriate services and information for immigration, financial, social, educational, recreational, etc., needs that ultimately encourage or hinder their settlement to Canada
      • Provide clients with information regarding their rights and obligations as a citizen, and provide access to information regarding housing, financial aid and general living services such as health and public transportation
      - Provide referrals, crisis intervention and counseling:
      • Provide client with adequate resources to aid in their transition, such as crisis intervention, referral services for counseling or referrals for translation services
      - Conduct group orientation and presentations:
      • Research and prepare for presentations to be conducted in a large group setting on topics such as settlement issues, etc.
      - Develop and maintain database and reporting:
      • Maintain client database to allow for updated information to better assist client needs; prepare reports regarding services used and clients’ interactions with the services as necessary
      • Perform other tasks as necessary, including the responsibility of ensuring that all activities comply with social and employment laws, such as the occupational health and safety act
      - Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Durham Ukrainian Humanitarian Response Project to meet identified needs
      - Attend and support internal and/or external meetings and events where applicable
      - Participate in promoting a positive workplace culture through agency committee membership and departmental activities
      - Perform other duties as assigned

      Qualifications and skills

      • Post-secondary education in Social Services or related area of study
      • 3+ years working experience in settlement services
      • Proficiency to a second language, preferably Amharic and Swahili
      • Superior communication skills, oral and written proficiency in English
      • Current and up to date knowledge of social services and social laws
      • Experience working with the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services is a definite asset
      • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the multicultural communities
      • Knowledge of gender-based violence, anti-oppression principles and trauma informed approaches
      • Demonstrated ability to understand, map, and improve workflow and processes
      • Responds to stressful situations in a calm, collected and professional manner
      • Must be proactive, resourceful, and possess the ability to resolve complex client concerns
      • Strong computer literacy (i.e. word processing, databases, and email) and experience working in on-line environments with web-based tools

      Additional Requirements

      • The Resettlement & Integration Worker will need to be flexible regarding assigned work hours and location
      • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, and occasionally on weekends
      • A valid Ontario driver’s license (Class G), use of a vehicle and insurance with the ability to work in a variety of settings
      • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Vulnerable Sector Screening and certificate demonstrating proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to commencing employment
