      This opportunity is for a part-time, temporary Resident Advisor (RA) position at the UNC-IE Highlands Field Site program (HFS) which is administered by Study Abroad Office. This program is located in the mountains of North Carolina on the Highlands Biological Station. Similar to an on-campus RA, the IE-HFS RA will be responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, healthy, and safe living situation for a group of up to 15 students enrolled in the semester-long field site program. The RA lives in the housing quarters with the students on the Highlands Biological Station campus. RAs also have the responsibility of ensuring that students are respectful of other guests who stay at other facilities at the Highlands Biological Station for short or extended periods of time (weekends to semester). The RA keeps the IE-HFS Program Directors informed about successes and challenges at the residence at weekly meetings. Please see the following for information about the location of the IE-Highlands Field Site: https://highlandsbiological.org/ Housing for the IE-HFS is the Cottages, where the RA will have a single room, but shared bathroom facilities and common areas.

      Specific duties include:
      • Be present on move-in and move-out day to facilitate an organized moving.
      • Build community by providing social and educational activities and informing students of local activities of interest.
      • Ensure students maintain clean and healthy living areas, including bedrooms, bathrooms, and shared living spaces.
      • Adhere to and enforce UNC and HBS rules for conduct.
      • Be a peer counselor and serve as a role model to students.
      • Complete administrative tasks, such as room condition forms and provide assistance when there are housing issues.
      • Meet with the IE-HFS Directors regularly to discuss recent happenings and challenges at the residence and plans for upcoming social and educational activities.
      • Refer students to University and community resources as needed.
      • Help IE-HFS faculty and staff with logistics as needed associated with meetings and field trips, including meal planning, grocery shopping, gathering and loading supplies, and arranging for reservations as needed.
