- Assess new referrals and inpatients on admission by completing a thorough history and examination including physical examination.
- To ensure physical health and mental health care of patients are being met doing reviews with the nursing staff whilst on call.
- Liaise with the Consultant Psychiatrist on call when necessary for advice.
- The post holder will be expected to prescribe and review medication with the support of the Consultant Psychiatrist on call when required.
- Liaise with members of the MDT, GPs, relatives and other professional agencies as needed.
- To do medical reviews on patients in seclusion or long term segregation.
- To ensure patient notes and documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- The post holder will be supervised regularly by the Medical Director or their nominee to ensure their training needs are assessed and supported to help with their professional and personal development plans.
- To ensure the Medical Director is kept updated in a timely manner regarding all clinical matters arising whilst on call by submitting appropriate handovers.
- The Specialty Doctor role essentially involves working as a ward doctor providing the physical and mental health needs of inpatients under the clinical supervision of the respective consultant psychiatrist.
- The SD role is to cover the ward doctors planned leave between 9am to 5 pm when the RMO duties will be temporarily suspended.
