- Under general supervision, conducts environmental assessments of projects submitted to the Division using a range of tools including field work, topographic maps, technical reports, and computerized databases and applications:
- Assists with high level staff in conducting natural resource reviews for units of local government, State or Federal Agencies, or Intra-Department activities to ensure compliance with natural resources statues.
- Analyzes data to determine the potential adverse impacts to natural resources.
- Prepares correspondence and other documentation required by statute, regulation or departmental policy.
- Assists with the development and implementation of strategies to avoid, minimize or compensate for adverse impacts to natural resources.
- Formulates position papers on the natural resource impacts of actions submitted for review.
- Performs administrative tasks that facilitates tracking, filing, and maintaining project information:
- Prepares and maintains program files and reports that document that status of a project.
- Communicates with Department personnel, other state agencies and consultants in conducting natural resource reviews:
- Maintains files of communications.
- Represents the Department on task forces and committees, at inter-agency meetings, and at meetings with units of local government or with private citizens:
- Prepares and delivers informal and formal presentations for such meetings.
- Presents review to supervisor.
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college with coursework in recreation or resource planning or a related field.
- Requires one year responsible work experience in natural resource or recreation planning or a related field.
- One (1) year of working knowledge of federal and state environmental protection and resource conservation statutes and regulations.
- One (1) year of working knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques utilized in determining the impacts of various project proposals on natural resources.
- One (1) year of experience utilizing various computer programs in the development of reports, organizing materials and conducting environmental impact assessments.
- Prefers a bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, or other natural resource related degree.
- Ability to pass background check.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel as needed.
