      The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is seeking an experienced Respiratory Tech Therapist II. Join our dynamic healthcare team as an experienced Respiratory Therapy professional. You will leverage your advanced skills in respiratory care, exercise independent decision-making, and provide less supervised care than a Respiratory Therapy Technician I. In this role, you'll directly supervise and mentor junior technicians, guide their work, and offer procedural instruction. Additionally, you will play a key role in training and mentoring new employees.

      Schedule - Monday-Friday with Weekends Off

      • Day Shift is 7:30AM-4:00PM
      • Evening Shift is 3PM-11:30PM

      Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

      • Serve as a technical reference for respiratory care staff by providing guidance, consultation, and direction.
      • Assign, direct, and supervise Respiratory Therapy Technician I activities during assigned shifts.
      • Assess and provide feedback on the performance of Respiratory Therapy Technician Level 1 staff.
      • Administer pharmacologic, diagnostic, and therapeutic agents related to respiratory care as prescribed.
      • Observe and monitor patient responses to respiratory care treatments and diagnostic testing.
      • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement patient care plans.
      • Promote continuous learning and professional development for yourself and your team.
      • Work efficiently within and across clinical settings to provide quality service.
      • Demonstrate competence in meeting age-specific patient needs in your specialty area.
      • Order and maintain necessary equipment and supplies for patient services.
      • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, ensuring consistency of care.

      Required Qualifications:

      • Possesses advanced knowledge of respiratory care principles and practices
      • Prioritizes and delegates work assignments effectively
      • Leads and organizes team efforts to achieve work objectives and performance standards
      • Communicates effectively with staff and patients to ensure quality care
      • Demonstrates critical thinking and handles moderately complex issues
      • Understands emergency medical procedures and their application
      • Remains calm, acts quickly, and exercises sound judgment in emergencies
      • Gathers information through interaction and examination of records
      • Establishes rapport and communicates effectively with diverse groups
      • Utilizes a computer to enter and record patient data accurately
      • Responds sensitively to patient needs and treatment responses

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience with delivering care to complex patient populations including patients suffering from acute chronic conditions, behavioral and mental health illnesses, and inmates.

      Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is a fully Joint Commission accredited teaching facility that provides acute, subacute, and ambulatory care to patients referred by public agencies and private sector providers. Shattuck Hospital’s services help economically and socially disadvantaged patients to get high quality, cost-effective care from a staff that respects their dignity.

      Located in the heart of Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, the Shattuck Hospital includes 248 inpatient beds including 95 Psychiatric beds and 29 Correctional Health beds. In addition, the Shattuck has a full outpatient clinic with many specialties that offers treatment to patients of the Department of Mental Health as well as Department of Correction and House of Correction inmates and community patients.

      The Shattuck hospital is on the forefront of substance use disorder treatment including a Suboxone clinic serving 200 patients. In addition to direct medical services LSH hosts and supports an array of services located on the campus, serving patients struggling with addictions and homelessness.

      Minimum Entrance Requirements:
      Applicants must have (A) a current and valid license as a Respiratory Therapist issued by the Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care, and at least (B) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in respiratory treatment and/or respiratory therapy in a hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
      Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Driver's License at a Class level specific to assignment.
      SUBSTITUTIONS:
      I. An Associate's or higher degree in Respiratory Therapy may be substituted for the required (B) experience.
      II. Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care may be substituted for the required (B) experience.

      S alary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range
