      Your ‘day to day’

      Attorney who works with affiliate, regional and OC legal & compliance teams as well as business colleagues at affiliate level to provide quality, business-centric and timely legal advice in a wide variety of business activities and initiatives in France for the French affiliate based in Paris, La Defense, to enable PMI’s Smoke Free Future vision to become a reality. He/she will also propose and implement departmental practices, lead affiliate-wide projects relevant to the law department, and support business objectives in line applicable laws and regulations.

      Counsel – France will be effective in exercising seasoned judgment and providing guidance to management and business and functional leaders across the organization. Reporting to Senior Counsel France, Counsel-France will require a person of vision, leadership, integrity, commitment, maturity, and judgment. Responsibilities will include: analyzing complex issues and develop solutions and responses as the need arises; representing PMI and effectively building and maintaining strong external and internal relations; providing guidance and recommendation of policy and positions to the management; with other members of the legal department, providing trusted business partnership and counseling on strategic and major business initiatives and decisions of importance to the Company; demonstrating an inclusive, consultative and thoughtful approach to achieving cross-functional alignment; ensuring that legal services provided are cost-effective, practical, strategic, and consistent with the company’s objectives while creating an environment of collaboration with business partners to help drive continual process and policy improvements; contributing to and ensuring delivery on Law Department goals and the overall business plan of the company, and ensuring that law department implements leading practices and operates at the highest ethical standards.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Partners with global subject-matter experts, regional legal teams, Senior Counsel and business colleagues to create proactive strategies designed to avoid or minimize legal exposure.
      • Based on effective communication, helps business colleagues understand the risks and consequences of the given situation and propose solutions to address them.
      • Efficiently gathers and distills relevant information from appropriate sources, identifies and analyzes legal issues and knows when to escalate them.
      • Drafts key documents, presents clear recommendations and ensures legal compliance.
      • Stays current with legal developments, best practices and benchmarks and assists business colleagues in implementing policies and procedures in response thereto.
      • Reviews, drafts, revises, and negotiates a wide range of agreements.
      •Participates in project teams, ensuring that their decisions are compliant with relevant laws and PMI position.

      • Has experience in regulated industries.
      • Support PMI’s Project Based Organization (“PBO”) model.

      • Takes initiatives, be curious and interested in legal developments in a variety of sectors not necessarily tied to tobacco.
      • Ability to synthesize legal advice to ensure that it is persuasive, well understood, and memorable.
      • Maintains effective and cost-efficient working relationships with outside counsels.
      • Acts as a team player and role model for the legal function, encouraging collaboration and standards of excellence.
      • Understands and able to translate into “plain language” the legal ramifications of varied legal and regulatory risks, always having a strategic and consumer-centric mindset.

      What we are looking for

      • Law degree from a reputable French university.
      • Admitted to Bar in France.
      • At least 10 years of experience with a demonstrated in-depth understanding of regulatory and business law, including European competition law, GDPR, Compliance, commercial and regulatory legal matters. Both in-house and major law firm experience preferred.
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple, conflicting priorities while managing a substantial workload and client expectations.
      • Experience of working successfully in a highly results-oriented and performance-driven environment with a focus on excellence.
      • Robust interpersonal, networking, public speaking, and writing skills, with the confidence and credibility to act quickly, communicate effectively with diplomacy and civility, and command respect of both internal and external audiences.
      • Proven ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment.
      • Ability to oversee complex projects and lead them to successful completion in an organized, efficient, and effective manner.
      • Ability to lead and work in a multi-disciplinary setting to achieve consensus.
      • Extreme attention to detail.
      • Ability to maintain an appropriate perspective regardless of the delicacy or pressure of a situation.
      • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and preserve the integrity of information and processes.
      • Fluency in English (verbal and written).
      • PC Skills: Used to Microsoft package.
