    • Must have the ability to handle disruptive students who have been temporarily removed from regular classrooms.
    • Must make student realize being in in-school suspension is not punitive but the results of non-acceptable behavior.
    • Must be able to enforce rules fairly and effectively.
    • Must have patience, self- control, and adhere to district policies.
    • Communication Skills (oral, written, or business): Possesses basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
    • Has contact with members of District and the public.
    • Must have good interpersonal interaction or communication skills within the specific classroom environment.
    • Data Recording/Record Keeping: Performs simple data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
    • Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using whole numbers, fractions, decimals and/or percentages.
    • In a classroom (center) without a teacher, has under one's direction or control between 15-20 students who have been assigned by the Principal for a temporary period of time. Assists students with assignments in the basic subjects as outlined by the classroom teacher.
    • May escort students to and from classroom during lunch breaks and other breaks.
    • Before students can return to regular classes, all work must be completed and reviewed. Keeps in contact with students' teachers concerning grades, behavior, attendance, etc.
    • Works closely with counselors and schedules necessary appointments for students with counselors.
    • May assist students with preparing "plan for improvement" to resolve problems in the classroom.
    • Listens to other problems the students want to address.
    • Works closely with attendance secretary, Assistant Principals, and Counselors on student progress.
    • Prepares necessary reports for teachers, counselors, and administrators.
    • When there are no students in the center, may assist counselor with other duties.
    • Attends necessary in-service training programs and offers suggestions to improve the program.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills to resolve problems and provide information as requested.
    • Requires following safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or to students, inclusive of the District Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens.
    • Requires following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habit concerns.
    • Creativity, initiative and effective problem solving are important to success.
    • Must be able to cooperate with other staff members and have a positive attitude towards staff, students, and the public to enhance educational goals.
    • Must be able to communicate on the telephone.
    • This job requires frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching, reaching above the shoulder, and pushing and pulling.
    • Employee must have the dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines.
    • Must be able to supervise students in the classroom and outside.
    • Must be able to communicate with student and parents.
    • Must be able to get around the classroom, media center, cafeteria, campus, etc.
    • Must be able to assist students with normal activities.
    • Able to get around the various sites.
    • Able to perform playground, lunch, bus and related duties.

      Credentials: None
      Education:

      Training or Experience Required: Previous work or volunteer experience with students. Must have sufficient skills in math or reading to assist students with individual tutoring.

      Job Summary: Performs entry level to semi-skilled level duties under general supervision to assist teachers who have had disruptive students removed from their classes. Assist these students with their daily assignments and to be able to return to the regular classroom. Follows generally standardized operating policies and procedures. Interprets policies and procedures and follows predetermined solutions established by higher level supervision or operating procedures.

      Terms of Employment: Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. (remaining days in 180-day contract)
