      SUMMARY

      The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is seeking a full-time, guest-facing Retail Supervisor to support the daily operations of the Science Store and other museum retail locations. This key team member will serve as Manager on Duty, providing floor leadership, staff supervision, and direct guest engagement.

      The Retail Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the museum’s retail sales plan is achieved by motivating the team, optimizing the store environment, and maintaining a strong focus on revenue-generating opportunities. This includes both store operations and servicing ancillary revenue areas such as the photobooth, penny press, and vending machines.

      This position is ideal for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about retail, merchandising, and creating memorable guest experiences.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provide consistent floor coverage as Manager on Duty, ensuring smooth operations and high levels of guest satisfaction.

      • Lead and supervise retail staff across all sales locations, providing coaching, guidance, and support.

      • Maintain a daily focus on achieving sales goals and executing the museum’s retail sales plan.

      • Process and prepare merchandise: receive, verify, price, organize, and stage inventory for timely floor placement. Including organizing all retail storage areas,

      • Ensure merchandise is displayed according to visual standards and aligned with current promotions.

      • Train and/or support all retail team members.

      • Monitor and replenish inventory regularly, keeping floor stock organized and accessible.

      • Analyze daily KPIs and sales reports and communicate to the management team.

      • Implement promotional strategies and ensure all signage and pricing are accurate.

      • Assist guests with purchases, inquiries, and issues, maintaining a positive and solution-oriented approach.

      • Schedule staff efficiently to meet operational and guest service needs.

      • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization in all retail areas.

      • Oversee and service ancillary revenue units (photobooth, penny press, vending machines), ensuring they are stocked, clean, functional, and contributing to overall sales goals.

      • Represent the museum with professionalism and enthusiasm, modeling exceptional service and alignment with the institution’s mission and values.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

      • High school diploma required; higher education preferred.

      • At least 1 year of retail supervisory experience, ideally in a high-traffic or cultural institution environment.

      • Proven ability to drive sales and meet revenue goals.

      • Experience with merchandise processing, inventory management, and visual merchandising.

      • Prior experience servicing self-service or ancillary machines preferred.

      • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.

      • Familiarity with POS systems (Heartland Retail preferred).

      • Ability to multitask, lead a team, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

      • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.

      • Must be a team player with strong communication skills and attention to detail.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      This role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Must be able to move quickly across sales floors and remain on foot for long periods. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

      WORK ENVIRONMENT

      Work takes place in both indoor and outdoor museum environments. Must be comfortable working in varied weather conditions (sun, rain, heat, wind) for extended periods as needed.
