Job Description

- Provide advice, information, and assistance in person, over the phone, and electronically to current students.
- Guide students through program planning and assist them with program exploration based on their academic success.
- Advise new and ongoing students on course selection, consequences of adds, drops and withdrawals, and academic issues.
- Guide students through the enrollment process through one-on-one interactions and group workshops.
- Advise ongoing students on bridging and laddering within NorQuest, as well as laddering to other institutions, discuss both academic and ELP pre-requisites.
- Follow-up with students to encourage course enrollment.
- Monitor academic progress of students and analyze progress reports from instructors. Connect students with internal and external resources.
- Interpret and explain college and program policies and procedures to students, referring to faculty as needed.
- Participate in College recruitment events (Open House, Info Night, etc.).
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in student advising/student centered role or a related career in post-secondary education.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft would be an asset
- Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- An ability to exercise judgement within established guidelines.
- A positive and professional attitude and the ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to remain calm in demanding situations and appropriately deal with stress resulting from situations.

Reporting to the Team Lead, Student Retention Services, the Retention Advisor plays a pivotal role in increasing student enrolment, retention, academic success, and striving for a high student satisfaction rate. The Advisor provides guidance, information, and options to help students make informed decisions about their educational journey while keeping up to date and current on internal and external programming, processes and policies to provide consistent, accurate information, and foster a continuous relationship with the college that is standard across all NorQuest programming.

SALARY: $54,028 - $70,193 annually reflective upon what you bring AKA your education and experience. We are hiring for 1 full time permanent position and 1 full time term position with an end date of February 2025. These positions are with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) which include immediate access to our great benefits programs.
