      The Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS) is seeking a Retirement Benefits Officer to work within the Member Services Bureau. Retirement Benefits Officers play an important role in the retirement journey. Retirement Benefits Officers assist members with pre-retirement counseling, provide retirement estimate, process retirement applications, and maintain member account information.

      What You’ll Do:

      • Consult with IPERS members via telephone, virtually, and in person.
      • Gather information to assist with pre-retirement planning.
      • Perform complex retirement benefit-related calculations both manually and using IPERS pension administration system.
      • Document member engagement in the pension administration system.
      • Provide front-line risk mitigation and fraud prevention through identity authentication process.
      • Perform troubleshooting and technical support for members using IPERS online digital portal.
      • Process retirement workflows, forms and applications.
      • Perform peer review of completed applications.

      Individuals in this position may spend a considerable amount of time on the phone.

      Finalists will be subject to a background check.

      Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree;
      OR

      one year of full-time experience in job interviewing referral and/or placement, credit investigation, collection work or related public contact work obtaining, analyzing and/or evaluating data may be substituted for each 30 semester hours of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years;
      OR

      employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of two years of full-time work as a Retirement Benefits Technician.
