      The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for two (2) Limited Duration Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor) (Hybrid) positions within the Operations Division, Calculations section.

      • These are two (2) full time, Limited duration positions for workload needs expected to last through June 30, 2025; however, the position could end at any time.
      • These positions are based at our headquarters office in Tigard, Oregon; however, the successful candidates are eligible for hybrid (part-time remote) work.
      • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
      • These positions are represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

      Operations Division / Calculations (CS)

      The Operations Division is responsible for providing accurate information and timely customer service to PERS members, including comprehensive retirement plan information and assistance, issue resolution; providing accurate information and timely services to PERS employers including employer education, reporting assistance, compliance, overdue data, and contribution collection and validation; intake and processing of all benefit applications and stand-alone forms before and after retirement; initiating benefit estimates and processing purchases; determining eligibility for withdrawal; approving and denying disability applications; determining beneficiaries for pre- and post-retirement death benefits; reviewing court orders for compliance; calculating, maintaining, and ending all service retirement, disability, divorce, and death benefits for the PERS, OPSRP and IAP retirement programs

      Calculations Section
      The Calculations Section is responsible for calculating all purchases, estimates, service retirements, withdrawals, disability, divorce, and death benefits for Tier One, Tier Two, OPSRP and IAP programs. Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor):

      This position will perform complex and technical assignments by means of frequently researching member/employer information specific to contracts, laws, regulation, and statutes. Perform the reconciliation of employer and member accounts.

      Retirement Counselor 1

      The purpose of the Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor) is to determine retirement eligibility and benefits; provide information to members, beneficiaries, and employers on rights and benefits. The position will research member/employer information regarding contracts, laws, regulation, and statutes to determine specific retirements between tiers and job groups. The Retirement Counselor 1 (Benefit Processor) computes and processes benefit payments and employer and employee contributions. The position reconciles employer and member accounts.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


      Benefit Option
      One year of experience researching or reconciling accounts AND explaining rules, programs or procedures.

      OR


      One year of calculating payment amounts AND explaining rules, programs, or procedures.

      OR


      12 quarter (8 semester) college level credit hours in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
