- Develop and lead the Investment Compliance Program, including setting objectives, priorities, and policies.
- Monitor and review investment manager contracts and fee calculations to ensure compliance with agreed terms.
- Advise on compliance matters during investment manager contract negotiations.
- Conduct compliance reviews and report findings to key stakeholders.
- Stay ahead of regulations by tracking new and proposed state and federal investment rules.
- Identify and mitigate risks through policy recommendations and internal controls.
- Provide executive-level guidance on significant compliance risks.
- Oversee data integrity and safeguard confidential investment information.
- Analyze investment data to detect financial anomalies.
- Ensure policy adherence by both Board members and staff.
- Lead training efforts and serve as a compliance resource for the team.

The Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) is seeking a Retirement Investment Officer – Compliance to play a critical role in overseeing investment compliance within our Risk Management and Compliance Division.
As an authoritative expert in internal and external investment compliance, you’ll help protect IPERS' assets and ensure investments align with federal and state laws, as well as Investment Board and internal policies. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact toward responsible investment management while working with a team dedicated to ensuring IPERS' compliance with relative laws and requirements.
What You’ll Do:Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in compliance with an institutional money management firm or large institutional asset owner.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computational finance, physics, etc.), and experience equal to three years of full-time work in investment portfolio management or research for a stock exchange, investment or banking firm, public or private pension system, or treasurer's office.
2) All of the following (a and b):a. Three years of full-time work experience in investment portfolio management or research for a stock exchange, investment or banking firm, public or private pension system, or treasurer's office; andb. A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in finance, economics, business administration, or a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, engineering, computational finance, physics, etc.) equals one year of full-time experience.
