What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Lead Intern/Project Coordinator will supervise research interns and implement project activities and evaluations
- Research Interns will delve into primary source documentation to determine the circumstances of enslaved people who achieved their freedom during the Revolutionary War
- Digital Humanities Interns will work with research interns to develop interpretive products from the research and produce educational media and digital engagement content
- All positions will contribute to improving a database of freedom seekers, compiling biographical details, answering research questions, and identifying historical source material
- Participation in video calls with an NPS project team, development of summary reports, and presenting findings in webinars for NPS staff
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Government suitability review by NPS Personnel Security is required before starting the position
- Interns should be pursuing a degree in African American History, American History, American Studies, or a similar field
- Knowledge or experience in digital history is desirable, along with a strong background in primary and secondary research
- Specialized skills in history/humanities and digital engagement are necessary
- Good note-taking, written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and willingness to learn other digital platforms
- Interest in pursuing a career in public history or cultural resource management

- Understanding of historical research, public history, and community engagement
- Ability to network with partners and stakeholders, analyze historical documents, and communicate research findings effectively

- Interest in incorporating project deliverables into K-12 NPS education programs
- Familiarity with web content creation and social media platforms
