      This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available.

      JOB SUMMARY
      Serves as mentor and coach, providing individualized professional development and support to first, second, and third year teachers, and experienced new hires. Guides novice teachers and experienced new hires to be results oriented as they integrate into the teaching profession and to the philosophy, goals, and responsibilities of teaching at Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Right Start Advisors (RSA) will partner teach in the classrooms of beginning teachers, engage new teachers in cognitive coaching experiences, and provide professional development experiences to enhance professional learning. May be assigned to work in more than one school. The duration of the position is four years after which mentors will return to classroom positions or other instructional positions in the school system and new mentors will be selected.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Supports novice teachers and new hires in building their teaching capacity. Provides supports to assigned 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers, non-tenured teachers, and experienced new hires.
      • Communicates the procedures, mission, vision, and culture of AACPS and the school community.
      • Promotes implementation of the Teaching and Learning Cycle, curriculum documents, and timelines for instruction. Promotes understanding of the relationships between student achievement, effective instruction, classroom management, and partnerships with parents.
      • Models, coaches, and plans for effective classroom management. Observes student learning, collects data, and provides coaching to improve classroom instruction. Teaches, models, and reinforces appropriate human relations and communications skills.
      • Assists new teachers to employ a variety of teaching strategies to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Assists new teachers to formulate and monitor personal professional development plans. Supports new teachers with data analysis in order to plan, teach, and assess for learning.
      • Plans and conducts after-hours professional development for new teachers at Beginning Teacher Seminars, New Teacher Academies, Saturday Symposia, and school based professional development.
      • Collaborates with administrators and school-based department chairs and team leaders.
      • Helps teachers to locate necessary resources, both material and personnel. Guides and supports novice teachers with the successful completion of required reporting instruments.
      • Participates in mandatory initial RSA onboarding and monthly RSA forums. Participates in specified professional development as assigned.
      • Maintains documentation related to the New Teacher Support program. Assists in New Teacher Onboarding Kickoff programs each August.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

      Education

      • Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.

      Experience

      • Five (5) years successful teaching classroom teaching experience in K-12 education required.
      • Three (3) years most recent years of teaching in AACPS preferred.

      • Ability and willingness to demonstrate effective teaching practices with students in the classroom setting.

      • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
      • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage with diverse parents/guardians with varied communications styles, levels of skill, and experience to support their child’s education.
      • Ability to employ and demonstrate a variety of teaching strategies to work effectively with diverse populations.
      • Familiarity or experience with electronic leave report/substitute requesting systems (eg SmartFind Express), electronic grade reporting (eg Power Teacher GradeBook) and electronic teacher/parent communication tool (e.g. ParentConnect) and ability to use instructional technology hardware such as document cameras, presenters, and SmartBoards etc.
      • Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
      • Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

      Licenses and Certifications
      Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

      • Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification: Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
      • Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required;
      • Daily access to reliable transportation.

      • Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
