      Main Purpose and Function
      Reporting to the Recreation Programmer II, the Rink Attendant is responsible for various duties related to supervision and delivery of ice surface City programming. The Rink Attendant provides information, direction, and service to arena patrons. The Rink Attendant monitors the safety on the ice, enforces safety standards while patrolling on ice and performs basic first aid as required. The Rink Attendant will perform maintenance of arena equipment, and ensuring activity areas are safe.

      For candidates that are selected to move forward, the mandatory on-ice interview and screening will take place on April 4th from 4pm to 8pm.

      Specific Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provides information, direction, and service to arena patrons
      • Provides equipment (skates, helmets) to participants
      • Monitors the safety on the ice and enforce safety standards while patrolling
      • Ensures that activity areas and equipment are safe
      • Performs basic first aid as required
      • Performs minor maintenance of skates (sharpening), helmets, and other related arena equipment
      • Performs any other related duties/responsibilities as assigned

      Qualifications
      Education and Experience:

      • Completion of up to Grade 10 supplemented by some experience in a capacity dealing with the public or an equivalent combination of training and experience
      • Current and valid Standard or Emergency First Aid with CPR-C
      • Previous customer service experience is preferred

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

      • Skills in proficient ice skating, and comfortable skating with large groups on ice
      • Sound knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in sharpening and repair of ice skates
      • Working knowledge of hazards, related precautions, and safety regulations related arena operation
      • Working knowledge of the operation of ice rink facilities
      • Working knowledge of Park Board Learn to Skate program
      • Working knowledge of Park Board policy and procedures relative to arena operation
      • Ability to perform minor clerical and basic clean-up tasks
      • Ability to tactfully and effectively address complaints and inquiries brought forward by patrons
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and work collaboratively with staff
      • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
      • Skill in sharpening skates using skate grinder as well as skill in completing minor maintenance of skates as required

      Record Checks:

      • A Police Record Check is a requirement of the position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.

      The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
