      Overview

      Risk is the independent risk oversight function of DWS, working closely with Portfolio Management, Trading and other support and control functions. The Chief Risk Office (CRO) within DWS is an independent function responsible for protecting the business as well as being a trusted advisor and partner for supporting sustainable growth. The Investment Risk as part of CRO has team members in Frankfurt, Berlin, Luxembourg, New York, Zurich and Hong Kong.

      As an Investment Risk Team Lead you will focus on the assessment, control and governance of investment risks taken within illiquid alternative funds and separately managed accounts, with a focus on real estate-, infrastructure-, private equity- and private debt investments. In your role you will oversee market, -counterparty, credit, and liquidity risks including ESG/sustainability risk factors. You will be instrumental in advancing the risk management framework while supporting growth initiatives within a focus region for the firm.

      • Further develop risk management framework design and implementation for real estate, infrastructure, and private equity products

      • Develop a broad understanding of DWS illiquid alternative investment strategies, their risks, and mitigating controls

      • Significant engagement with DWS Portfolio and Product Management

      Your Key Responsibilities:

      • Enhance risk management framework and develop risk indicators to identify, assess and monitor risk

      • Perform risk and valuation analyses on a range of illiquid assets with a particular focus on Real Estate (Equity and Debt)

      • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews, policy update, procedure enhancement and risk reporting

      • Contribute to the integration of Climate Risk and Sustainability Risk in the Risk Management Framework for illiquid Investment Strategies

      • Establish and manage relationships with relevant stakeholders including researchers, portfolio managers and product specialists

      • Represent the Investment Risk Team in DWS

      • Manage and coach junior team members

      Your Skills & Experience:

      • Extensive experience in the asset management industry, preferably in a front-office (research or portfolio management) or risk management role

      • Advanced degree in Economics, Finance or Quantitative fields

      • Technical knowledge of financial markets, valuation methodologies and risk models (e.g., DCF, Multiple Approach, VaR, and stress testing)

      • Industry certifications are a plus (e.g., CFA, FRM, CAIA)

      • Previous experience at recruiting and managing resources

      • Relevant experience with illiquid asset underwriting and risk assessment, with a major focus across Real Estate (Equity and Debt)

      • Previous exposure to the asset management business, core risk management concepts, and regulatory frameworks

      • Business acumen and strong communication skills

      Expectations

      It is DWS’s expectation that employees hired into this role will work in the New York office in accordance with the firm’s hybrid working model.

      The salary range for this position in New York City is $138,000-$230,000. Actual salaries may be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s skill set, experience, education and other qualifications. Posted salary ranges do not include incentive compensation or any other type of remuneration.
