      The RN provides independent professional nursing care to patients with complex problems in one or more clinical areas as defined by the Montana Board of Nursing.

      • Applies the clinical discipline of professional nursing through the nursing process.
        • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations. (EF)
        • Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies. (EF)
        • The nurse interacts effectively with physicians as an advocate of patient care. (EF)
        • The nurse sets priorities for nursing care based on the care plan and delivers care in a timely manner. (EF)
        • The nurse collaborates with the clinical nursing staff and other clinical disciplines to evaluate the patient's response to the care plan and nursing intervention. (EF)
        • Completes discharge summary and instructions appropriately to ensure continuity of post- hospitalized care. (EF)
        • Effectively demonstrates the ability to delegate appropriately as guided by policy and Montana Board of Nursing. (EF)
        • Participates in patient care conferences as appropriate. (EF)
        • Demonstrates the ability to use Critical Thinking skills within the nursing profession. (EF)
        • Provides input in the formulation of policies and procedures. (MF)
        • Participates in the Quality Improvement process on voluntary basis as requested. (MF)
        • Precepts and Mentors new staff/students. (MF)
      • The professional nurse demonstrates ability to perform technical tasks and procedures safely and accurately.
        • The RN successfully completed the performance standards inclusive of the yearly competencies for the primary area. (EF)

        • Demonstrates competence with the Automated Medication dispensing system. (EF)
        • Follows all National and facility standards for safe medication administration and security using resources available and critical thinking skills. (EF)
        • Assists physicians with quality projects. (MF)
        • Effectively assists in the orientation of new employees when requested. (MF)
        • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. (EF)
      • Completes appropriate documentation.
        • Documents patient charges for area worked. (EF)
        • Receives and initiates physician's orders correctly. (EF)
        • Obtains patients consents and refusals. (EF)
        • Completes and updates patient medication history on admission and as needed. (EF)
        • Completes incident reports and medication error vigilance by following through with reporting process. (EF)

        • Returns phone calls for staffing needs in a timely manner. (EF)
        • Demonstrates the use of closed loop communication on regular basis. (EF)
      • Provides for optimal patient safety.
        • Submits appropriate work orders for malfunctioning equipment. (EF)
        • Tags and pulls malfunctioning equipment of out of service. (EF)
        • Follows all facility protocols and policies. (EF)
        • Responds appropriately to emergency situations. (EF)
        • Performs any routine or emergency check lists established in the clinical area. (EF)
        • Participates in committees and projects that contribute to patient safety. (MF)
        • Readily suggests process improvements aimed at refining patient safety. (MF)
      • Respects patient's rights to privacy and dignity.
        • Allows patient choices appropriate to their care. (EF)
        • Allows patient time to accomplish ADL's in their rehabilitative process to regain or maintain optimal level of functioning. (EF)
        • Maintains patient rooms in a clean and comfortable environment appropriate to the needs of the patient. (EF)
        • Uses privacy curtains and covers patients appropriately. (EF)
        • Observes all aspects of HIPPA in protecting patient information and reports concerns for breeches. (EF)
        • Champions projects related to patient environmental concerns and needs. (EF)
        • Shows awareness of current patient satisfaction rating for the organization and is engaged in improvement projects. (EF)

      • Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct:

        • Maintains awareness and understands the organization-wide compliance plan. Familiar with and adheres to LHW’s published Code of Conduct which provides guidance and expectations regarding confidentiality, conflict of interest, billing, controlled substances, Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), payment for referrals, gifts, anti-kickback laws, safety and health, waste disposal, and compliance with antitrust laws, advertising and marketing, discrimination, insider trading and government requests.         • Reports any violation or suspected violation of this Code or other hospital policies or procedures to supervisor, Compliance Officer or through the compliance hotline. (EF)
        • Attends and/or completes mandatory training regarding organizational compliance. (EF)

      Education and Experience Requirements

      Requires: Graduated from school of professional nursing; current Montana Registered Nurses License. Current AHA BLS Certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.

      Desire: Additional certifications are desired per clinical departments as follows:

      Birth Center requires:

      Current NRP certification - within 6 months of hire

      AHA ACLS (OB oriented) – within 6 months of hire

      EFM – within 6 months of hire

      STABLE (preferred)

      Birth Center Postpartum Visit and Lactation Nurse:

      IBCLC or CLC required for Postpartum Visit Nurse

      Current NRP certification - within 6 months of hire

      Minimum of 2 years postpartum and newborn RN experience

      ED Requires:

      AHA ACLS

      AHA PALS
      TNCC (within 6 months of hire)

      ENCP (within 6 months of hire)

      NRP (desired)

      Med/Surg Requires:

      AHA ACLS (within 12 months of hire)

      SCU Requires:

      AHA ACLS

      AHA PALS (within 6 months of hire)

      Infusion Requires:

      AHA ACLS or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

      Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

      PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
