      The Release of Information (ROI) Specialist is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of requests for patient health information in accordance with HIPAA, federal and state regulations, and organizational policies. This position involves extensive data entry, typing, and documentation to ensure efficient handling of all requests. The ROI Specialist plays a key role in safeguarding patient confidentiality and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards.

      Location: 3000 2nd Avenue South Birmingham, AL 35233

      Hours: Monday - Friday 10:30 PM - 7:00 AM

      Pay: 16.50 per hour

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Process incoming requests for medical records via mail, fax, email, portals, or in person.
      • Accurately enter request details, patient data, and release activity into electronic tracking systems.
      • Type and prepare correspondence, authorization forms, and other documents related to ROI requests.
      • Verify requestor identity and ensure proper authorization and compliance with applicable laws and policies.
      • Retrieve, review, and prepare medical records using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
      • Maintain detailed logs of all ROI activity, ensuring accuracy and completeness in data entry.
      • Respond promptly to inquiries from patients, providers, attorneys, and other requestors.
      • Handle sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
      • Assist with legal requests, subpoenas, audits, and court-ordered disclosures.
      • Stay current on ROI policies, HIPAA regulations, and state laws governing health information.

      Qualifications:

      • High school diploma or GED required.
      • 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in ROI, medical records, or health information management.
      • Strong data entry and typing skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
      • Experience in EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and ROI management software.
      • Working knowledge of HIPAA and medical records release regulations.
      • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
      • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
      • Certification (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CRIS) is a plus but not required.
