Step Into a New Role. Support NATO Readiness. Experience Something Extraordinary.

Are you ready for an adventure that breaks the routine? As a Civilian on the Battlefield (COB) , you’ll play a vital role in preparing NATO soldiers for real-world missions. By stepping into the identity of a local civilian—whether a café owner, teacher, doctor, shopkeeper, or other scenario-specific roles — you’ll help create realistic, immersive training scenarios that sharpen soldiers’ crisis response, negotiation skills, and cultural awareness.

At JMRC Hohenfels , a stunning nature reserve in Bavaria, you’ll work alongside a diverse team from across Europe—Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, the Netherlands, and beyond. You’ll witness large-scale military exercises up close while experiencing a dynamic and fast-paced environment like no other.

      What You’ll Do:

      • Portray different civilian roles—a business owner, community leader, or everyday citizen—interacting with NATO forces in authentic training environments.

      • Help soldiers navigate the complexities of working with local populations in conflict zones, humanitarian crises, and stabilization missions.

      • Spend your days immersed in the natural beauty of Bavaria.

      • Work with people from across Europe, forming new connections while contributing to a critical mission.

      What You’ll Gain:

      • A front-row seat to NATO military training, gaining insight into operations in war and crisis scenarios.

      • A sense of adventure and excitement—this is not your typical job!

      • The chance to broaden your perspective, working alongside individuals of different ages, backgrounds, and cultures.

      • A fully covered experience - accommodation, meals, and drinks are all provided during the exercise.

      • Reliable compensation: Earn a competitive flat rate (gross) per day, working up to 10 hours per day over a 12- to 18-day exercise period.

      Requirements

      Who We’re Looking For:

      • EU citizen or German work permit holder.

      • Basic German and English skills to communicate effectively.

      • Must be between the ages of 18-75 years old and physically able to walk 10–15 km per day if required.

      • Open-minded, adaptable, and willing to take on character roles, engaging with soldiers in scenario-based interactions.

      • Comfortable spending extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions.

      • A team player who enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds.

The next rotation is tentatively scheduled for April (exact dates to be determined), with additional exercises available throughout the year. Join the ones that fit your schedule!

      Important Notes:
