      Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt
      Reports to: Director of Transportation
      Department: Transportation

      Primary Purpose:
      Assist the Transportation Director with coordination and direction of the functional operation of school buses and transportation of students within the district, safely and efficiently.

      Qualifications:
      Preferred Requirements:
      High School Diploma or GED
      Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with “P” and “S” endorsements
      TEA School Bus Certification
      Ability to pass DOT physical
      Preferred Texas Association for Pupil Transportation (TAPT) Specialist or Supervisor Certification
      Special Knowledge/Skills:
      Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Applications
      Ability to establish and adjust bus routes by working with Transfinder computerized routing program
      Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
      Typing, file maintenance and copy machine operation
      Experience:
      Minimum of 3 years as a school bus driver
      One year of experience working with computer transportation routing programs.

      Major Responsibilities and Duties:
      1.Supervises, mentors and evaluates drivers.
      2.Investigates and resolves parental concerns
      3.Views video with drivers and administrators
      4.Works with school officials to create school bus safety programs and safety incentives for the students.
      5.Oversees safe loading and unloading procedures at the schools
      6.Makes sure all drivers have seating charts on file
      7.Ensures drivers complete state head counts correctly and in a timely order
      8.Screen and interview applicants
      9.Substitutes on routes as needed
      10.Awareness of morale problems among drivers
      11.Conduct monthly professional development meetings
      12.Performs other duties as assigned

      Two way radio, computer and telephone

      Ability to demonstrate good communication skills (verbal and written); interpretive skills (policy, procedures & data); reasoning skills; must have analyzing skills and be able to understand and demonstrate ability to follow verbal instructions; demonstrate ability to compile and compute data; must demonstrate tact and courtesy when dealing with diverse public
      Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
