      ROUTE SETTER APPRENTICE


      At Bouldering Project, our Setting Program is dedicated to creating varied and engaging climbs for all ability levels. The Route Setter Apprenticeship is designed to support experienced climbers as they grow into competent and confident setters.


      We’re committed to building a more inclusive climbing community and especially welcome applications from people whose backgrounds or identities have been underrepresented in the route setting profession. This seasonal apprenticeship is part of our broader effort to open more pathways into the climbing industry.


      The apprenticeship runs for 2–3 months, with a commitment of two- three days a week as a seasonal employee. Apprentices are expected to demonstrate strong teamwork, a willingness to learn, and a collaborative attitude. This role reports to the Head Setter and receives mentorship and support from the Assistant Head Setter and other members of the setting team.

      GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
      • At least 2 years climbing experience
      • Team work, communication skills, and the ability to receive and implement feedback gracefully
      • Passion for climbing and community
      • Desire to continually work to improve own climbing and setting skills
      • Comfortable working at height and carry up to 50lbs
      • Preferred: Comfortably climbing black to blue circuits
      • Preferred: Experience coaching youth and/or adult climbing


      DUTIES
      • Participate in, and contribute to, team forerunning of the majority of boulder problems
      • Assist in wall maintenance tasks as they arise during the setting day
      • Help maintain setting shop and equipment
      • Perform setting-related tasks as directed by Head Setter
      • Maintain professional relationships with other BP staff
      • Interact with customers and be a positive representative of BP in the community
      • Occasionally work additional hours (may include nights and weekends) for special, setting-related events
      • Other duties as assigned


      COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
      • Scheduled for 2-3 setting days per week, weekdays from 8am - 6pm.
      • Additional hours in other departments may be available upon request.

      • The apprenticeship will be classified as a seasonal employee for a term of 60-90 days.

      WORKING CONDITIONS


      Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including possible evenings and weekends. Duties often occur before and after regular business hours.
