Overview:

We are seeking two Health and Safety Professionals to provide safety support to multiple ORNL divisions. These roles will be matrixed to internal customers as representatives of the ORNL Safety and Operations Services Division (SOSD). These positions will directly report to the Group Leader for Misison Support Safety Services. The majority of day-to-day interactions will be in the divisions the positions are matrixed to with the support of SOSD resources and equipment.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Providing professional safety and industrial hygiene support to assigned divisions across the ORNL campus.
• Perform periodic surveillance and assessments to verify compliance with programmatic or work control requirements.
• Evaluate work practices, controls, and corrective actions for effectiveness and compliance.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure assessments for chemical and physical hazards as necessary.
• Provide technical support in the application of regulatory requirements, procedures and standards that are applicable under 10 CFR 851.
• Participate in incident investigations, incident critiques, inspections, and audits, and advise management on findings and observations.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree in industrial hygiene / industrial safety or relevant field, with a minimum of 2 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and specialized training).
• Experience in field oversight/assessment of industrial hygiene/industrial safety performance and compliance with applicable OSHA, local, state, and federal industrial hygiene and safety standards and regulations.
• Knowledge and background in chemical/material identification and evaluation along with experience in hazard analysis/exposure assessment activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with an array of industrial hygiene instruments.
• Working knowledge of 10 CFR 1910 and 10 CFR 1926.
• Knowledge of Department of Energy Integrated Safety Management principles and 10 CFR 851.
• Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal, verbal, and written communication at a professional level.
• Experience with work control processes at a DOE facility
• Ability to work independently, under pressure, with strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to meet deadlines on own initiative.
• Experience working with software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.

Special Requirements:

• Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
• Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
