City Schools of Decatur Direct Safety and Security Services department and functions affecting the safety, security, and emergency preparedness of District campuses, facilities, students, staff, and visitors.
Responsible for the coordination, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of the District's school safety and security program.
Provide risk and threat assessments throughout the District, as needed.
Perform tabletop exercises with training opportunities as needed for current and new district administrative staff.
Conduct regular safety walkthroughs with local law enforcement, EMS, GEMA, and school/department administrators.
Conducts safety and security assessments and patrols of district facilities.
Respond to emergency situations occurring on any school campus.
Perform preventative patrols of district property.
Work with district staff to develop, coordinate, and implement operational, emergency preparedness, and safety plans for special events.
Direct the regular review and update of campus emergency operations plans in conjunction with local law enforcement and emergency management departments.
Coordinate emergency preparedness training and related activities with campuses and/or outside agencies to promote and/or test emergency readiness of various District components.
Plan, develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate emergency preparedness plans, policies, procedures, and programs related to safety practices in schools and system facilities.
Serves as the “first responder” on the scene to investigate after-hours burglar and fire alarms, and coordinates with other staff on any solutions needed to ensure the safety of the site’s personnel and plant.
Assists in directing the deployment of law enforcement personnel to manage routine operations and emergency situations.
Conducts safety training.
Work collaboratively with campus staff and other District departments to provide students and staff with high-quality, safe, and productive learning environments.
Serve as a liaison between the District and local/state law enforcement and emergency management departments.
Foster ongoing, positive relationships between the District and local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management departments.
Address campus, parent, student, and community concerns and communicate as appropriate with District and school-level administrators regarding safety and related concerns and solutions.
Communicates district safety and security procedures to staff, students, and parents.
Develops effective communication channels to ensure appropriate district leaders are informed of all emergencies.
Engages in capital construction and renovation projects to ensure regulatory compliance and implementation of best practices to support safety and security.
In collaboration with other leaders, ensures the district’s compliance with local, state, and federal safety and security regulations.
Recommends policies, procedures, and contract language to improve discipline, safety, and security.
Attends safety conferences and leads meetings of various District stakeholders to make presentations concerning District safety and security efforts and/or to answer questions concerning specific events occurring within the District.
Works with Principals to conduct and maintain the Fire drill records.
Serves as product owner for key safety and security systems, including door control, surveillance camera, visitor registration, fire alarm, emergency communication, and burglar alarm systems; engages Information Services and Operations staffs to maintain the lifecycle of related hardware and services.
Assists in the coordination of district collaborative efforts with municipal agencies for accident investigations, crossing guard deployment, law enforcement, traffic management, and protection of property.
Monitors anonymous reporting systems and social media as a component of threat assessment.
Evaluates the effectiveness of safety and security procedures.
Conducts or supports investigations as assigned.
Advises principals and the Chief Operations Officer regarding the security needs to protect students, staff, and property.
Collaborates with the development, preparation, implementation, and maintenance of school and district safety plans, policies, and emergency preparedness.
Engages with job-alike colleagues to learn and share best practices; engages in ongoing professional learning.
Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of City Schools of Decatur and follow directives from supervisor.
Protects confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and uses discretion when sharing any such information within legal confines.
Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Prior success working in K-12 safety and security or a related field
Ability to work effectively with police and security personnel as well as school district staff.
Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations.
Hold a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of 5 years experience in planning, organizing, and directing security or law enforcement protective service activities involving the protection/security of persons and property
Excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents and the community.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
Familiarity with current standards around surveillance and security systems
Work experience with law enforcement agencies.
Advance training or certifications in safety and security preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: A5 - Central Office Director ($91,125 - $127,053)TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint this position for an annual period of service of days indicated above.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Although most work will be completed during traditional business hours, the incumbent is expected to be available 24/7 to respond to police or other emergency summons involving CSD security.
