      The Safety Audit Coordinator will provide administrative, audit, technical, and coordination support of MBTA's safety program, and as directed by the Chief Safety Officer. Perform these functions in collaboration with management and employees from MBTA Safety, other MBTA departments, vendors, contractors, and contract services (e.g., commuter rail, paratransit, ferry). Coordinate and assist with safety-­related activities, scheduling, audits, data collection, analysis, and measurements. Prepare and write reports, correspondence, charts, graphs, and comprehensive program documents. Support the data collection, analysis, monitoring, and reporting functions associated with all types of safety-­related data throughout the Authority.
      • Utilize the current safety data management system. Assist with the administration and development of the department's web-based safety data management software system to ensure data quality and integrity, and system ease of use
      • Report safety/security critical data to oversight agencies such as the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), National Transit Database (NTD), and other internal, state, and federal safety reporting entities, as applicable.
      • Perform advanced data analysis and trending techniques in order to visualize, monitor, and evaluate the MBTA's safety performance
      • Assist with the coordination, planning, and administration of safety committees, working groups, task groups, safety leadership exchanges, and other collaborative safety meetings with MBTA departments, regulators, and external stakeholders
      • Participate as a member of the safety oversight team in the oversight, administration, execution, and documentation of safety oversight programs including the employee safety reporting program.
      • Assist with the entry, analysis, reporting, documentation, and dash boarding of safety data
      • Ensure that all applicable safety data within the Authority are recorded and reported according to state and federal regulations, and internal requirements
      • Assist in the development and delivery of safety-related training materials, programs, and guidance documents in support of the Authority’s implementation of its Safety Management System
      • Assist with the development, delivery, or tracking of training on MBTA's safety data management system, data processes, and similar programs to all members of the department, and other MBTA departments as necessary
      • Research and assist in developing, maintaining, and monitoring safety performance metrics and data driven processes in line with Safety Management Systems (SMS) guidance, new federal and state regulations, and international best practices
      • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co­worker in a professional and courteous manner
      • Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned


      • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instruction, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
      • Zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in data collection, analysis, and trending
      • Advanced level skills in Excel to perform data collection, analysis, trending, and reporting functions. Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Power Point, Access, and Project Manager
      • Proficiency using Outlook and other organizational platforms to effectively manage calendars, scheduling, tasks, and correspondence
      • Strong organizational, administrative, multi­tasking, time management and inter­personal skills. Strong communication and report writing skills. (Finalists selected to interview will be required to submit a writing sample at the time of interview)
      • Ability to undertake several projects simultaneously and follow through on each project to completion
      • Ability to complete, apply, and adhere to concepts in safety training including but not limited to SMS Fundamentals, ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 as well as courses offered on websites hosted by Massot, FEMA, and TSI within the first month of employment. Ability to complete a Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) within three (3) years of employment
      • Ability to perform all tasks safely with proper PPE. Ability to perform and oversee those tasks are performed to ensure the safety of MBTA employees, contractors, ridership, and the general public, and critical infrastructure
      • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner
      • Ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience
      • Ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed
      • Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week
      • Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce


      Preferred Experience and Skills
      • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Business, Economics, Urban Planning, Statistics, data analytics, or a related field
      • Knowledge of advanced statistical or quantitative data analysis techniques
      • Experience with regulatory compliance, audits, and investigations
      • Experience with Tableau
      • Knowledge of FTA and/or DPU safety regulations
      • Knowledge of transit, commuter rail, aviation, or other transportation safety programs
      • Experience with the National Transportation Database (NTD) or other safety data management systems
