      Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to lead, assist, and advise on Safety, Health, Quality, and Environmental (SHEQ) functions. The role aims to protect the company, employees, customers, and assets against losses, injuries, and accidents through the development and enforcement of safe work practices and programs.

      Main Duties & Responsibilities:

      • SHEQ Compliance: Evaluate and maintain compliance with Epiroc SA, Mining Legal and Regulatory, and Customer requirements in all areas relevant to SHEQ.
      • Inspections: Perform regular Operational/TMM inspections as required by the customer and other necessary inspections.
      • Legal Appointments: Carry out legal appointments on the customer site as per MHSA/Minerals Act regulation (2.17.1). Implement and maintain hazard/aspect and risk/impact awareness programs.
      • Audit Processes: Implement, assist, and control internal and external audit processes. Report audit performance to the Contract Site Manager and/or Regional SHEQ Specialist monthly.
      • Risk Assessments: Conduct SHEQ risk assessments and recommend improvements to the Mine and/or Site Manager.
      • PPE Compliance: Ensure all SHEQ requirements are adhered to, including the issue and effective use of PPE, aiming for zero accidents, incidents, and property damages.
      • Record Keeping: Coordinate, report, and control accurate record-keeping related to SHEQ statistics. Participate in incident investigations as required.
      • Management Support: Advise, guide, and support management to ensure SHEQ procedures and policies are implemented and effective. Ensure all personnel are fully engaged and trained in the processes.
      • Meetings: Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly SHEQ or other meetings. Report SHEQ statistics to Site Management, Head Office, and Mine/Customer.
      • COID Act Compliance: Assist with the implementation, reporting, and compliance of the Compensation, Occupation, Injuries, and Diseases Act.
      • Legal Compliance: Ensure all customer-required legal compliance and related documentation updates on customer software (e.g., Passport 360, Enablon).
      • SHEQ Objectives: Ensure SHEQ objectives and targets for Epiroc South Africa are rolled out and effectively implemented.
      • Injury Prevention: Implement initiatives and processes to prevent injuries, ill-health, and environmental pollution. Promote a culture of SHEQ awareness and good practices.
      • Audit and Verification: Conduct GAP analysis to ensure TLD Mine site compliance with MHSA Legal and Epiroc Group requirements, including the Customer’s.
      • Sustainability Reporting: Assist with the collection and correct reporting of SHEQ statistics for quarterly Sustainability Reporting in GPS.
      • Near miss and Hazardous activities reporting : Be the primary driver to report all Incidents and near misses at the customer site into the customer systems as well as for Epiroc reporting.
      • Training Needs: Assist and advise on necessary SHEQ training needs to ensure compliance with statutory and other requirements.
      • Ground Engagement Tools: Responsible for the compilation, planning, and training rollout for Ground Engagement Tools (GET) Work Instructions, SOPs, and related material as per the Contractual Service Level Agreement.
      • Legal Duties: Perform and adhere to legal duties assigned by the Mine in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations as per the 2.17.1 MHSA appointment.
      • Additional Tasks: Carry out any other functions or duties as required by Epiroc the Way and Group requirements

      Skills, Competence and Experience:

      • Three years relevant Mining/Engineering in an mining environment.
      • Technical aptitude and technical GET background an advantage. Code B drivers licence
      • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 Implementation and internal auditing experience.
      • Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control Management
      • Risk Assessment Techniques (SWIFT ,HAZOP and FMECA,WRAC and HIRA, etc).
      • Good understanding of the MHS Act and Operational Application of Legislation.
      • Legal Compliance Auditing experience will be advantageous.
      • ITIS/Train the Trainer
      • MS Office, Knowledge and Applications
      • Strong knowledge of MHSA/Minerals Act regulations.
      • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
      • Proficiency in SHEQ-related software (e.g., Passport 360, Enablon).

      Educational Qualifications:

      • Relevant qualifications in Safety, Health, Quality, and Environmental management
