The Role

The Safety Officer will ensure compliance to the Sandvik’s Safety Policies, Procedures, Processes and to all legal requirements in terms of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 and its Regulations. Ensure compliance where applicable on customer sites, in terms of the Mine Health & Safety Act 29 of 1996 and its Regulations. Ensure that contractor obligations are met in terms of Sandvik’s Services Level Agreement. Develop, implement, maintain systems & processes for the sustainability and continual improvement.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and conduct External & Internal Safety Audits.
• Follow-up on the implementation of the Audits’ Action Plans.
• Facilitate HIRA (Hazards Identification & Risk Assessment process and keep records.
• Plan and schedule safety related training and maintain the training records.
• Analyse and upload the Safety Statistics (Lagging & Leading Indicators) into the EHS 360 system.
• Develop and distribute the Monthly EHS Talk Topics to all relevant parties, to create awareness.
• Ensure that documents (process & procedures) required for the Safety Management System are review, controlled and maintained.
• Ensure that all relevant Legal Appointments are valid and retained.
• Develop, update and maintain the site’s Legal Register.
• Coordinate the emergency evacuation process, draw-up the report and keep records.
• Conduct refresher or on-the-job safety related training and maintain the training records.
• Participate on the site’s Toolbox Safety meeting and provide guidance.
• Load Incidents (Hazards or Near-Misses) into the EHS 360 System. Ensure that the reviews and the investigation process are completed within the required timeframe.
• Ensure that the requirements for the ISO 45001- 2018 are implemented and the certification is maintained.
• Schedule and facilitate the Health & Safety Committee meeting and maintain the records for management review.

Profile Required

• Grade 12 or equivalent.
• A National Diploma Safety Management or B.Tech Degree in Safety Management.
• Comsoc 1/2 & or Samtrac qualification.
• ISO 45001-2018 certificate in implementation/ auditors.
• Risk management certificate-(Hazards Identification & Risk Assessment)
• 5+ Years experience as a safety professional of which, 3+ years must have been in mining or the FMCG/Engineering industry.
• 2+ Years experience as an ISO Auditor is advantageous.
• 2+ Years experience in Risk Management
• Incidents/Accidents Investigation Certification.
