      The SCA’s Safety Division p rovides optimum protection to the students, teachers, school personnel and the general public during all new construction and renovation of New York City school buildings by enforcing all applicable safety rules and regulations in a f irm, fair and consistent manner as well as e ducat ing SCA personnel, general contractors and subcontractors regarding City, State, Federal and SC A mandated safety rules and regulations .

      Job Description Summary

      The Safety Manager reports to his/her designated Managing Inspector, Safety Director or Vice President. The Safety Manager is responsible for providing guidance and technical advice regarding safety related matters on his/her assigned projects. The duties include assuring all SCA projects comply with all Federal, NY State, NY City and SCA Safety requirements.

      Job Description

      Responsibilities include:

      • Conduct unannounced site-specific safety compliance inspections for the designated boroughs, districts and or areas of influence. Inspections include, but are not limited to: review all relevant site documentation and perform a physical safety inspection of the project for code compliance, prepare written Safety Inspection Reports with photos (of deficiencies and /or site conditions) and distribute to the appropriate stakeholders at the completion of each inspection or work shift

      • Use independent judgement when issuing 24 hours and 48 hours compliance notices and stop work orders. Follow up and respond appropriately to assure compliance with the noted deficiencies

      • Responsible for all related safety awareness and compliance for assigned projects; use independent judgement to review and resolve field conditions that impact life safety immediately

      • Undertake special assignments to aid with the mission of the Safety Division to provide the highest quality of customer service and technical expertise

      • •At the direction of the Safety Director, conduct special inspections and respond to emergencies, accidents, incidents, complaints, severe weather issues, cranes and special projects during normal work hours, nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed

      • Ensure compliance with written health and safety program guidelines, pre-construction meetings, audits, risk assessment, and pre planning.

      • Participate in the implementation of safety training as required; develop and implement policy and procedures for the safety division

      • Review all submissions of Site Safety Plans, to assure code & applicable standards are met; review/verify and field Inspect, all designed approved drawings and or amendments for accuracy

      • Report all relevant safety related concerns and/or issues to the SCA Project Officer, Managing Inspector/ Safety Director/VP of ERC and any other applicable stakeholders immediately

      • Must be able to perform the duties of Managing Inspector or Division Director when required.

      • Performs related duties, as assigned.

      Certifications (if required)

      Driver License - Valid in NYS

      Work Experience

      Five years of full time, progressively responsible work as a technical specialist in one or more construction and design related fields; two years must involve managing all phases of construction work of a scale and scope similar to the Authority and a driver's license valid in New York State or a satisfactory combination of education and experience. Preference: Weighted consideration may be given to New York State Professional Engineers and Registered Architects with knowledge or experience in: government safety or construction standards; management of complex personnel and technological issues; policy formulation, budgetary control, scheduling, and highly technical operations decision making; dispute resolution, management and communications skills.
