      Basic Job Functions:

      Nucor Steel Texas is seeking an innovative and dynamic leader to lead the Health and Safety functions of the division. This position will provide safety expertise and strategic support to the division as part of our challenge to be the world’s safest steel company. Qualified candidates should be able to demonstrate their knowledge of OSHA compliance with federal, state & local regulations. They will work closely with leaders within the company to conduct & coordinate safety meetings; participate in and/or lead safety focus groups; and coordinate safety policies/programs, including the Central Health and Safety teams. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

      The job functions of this role include, but are not limited to:


      • Build relationships to drive continued excellence and engagement in safety culture and performance, challenging the status quo.
      • Collaborate with division’s teams on recognizing hazards and finding engineering solutions.
      • Regularly conduct safety audits in the mill and provide coaching and feedback to teammates and departments as needed.
      • Develop and produce reports on Health & Safety issues; analyze trends and collaborate with operations to determine areas to address as needed.
      • Assist and advise management on areas of concern, providing vital support and advice during investigations and major incidents.
      • Develop, implement, and manage the safety training programs and systems.
      • Lead initiatives on a variety of safety related projects in the spirit of continuous improvement.
      • Benchmark with other Nucor divisions on safety related initiatives, projects, policies, and procedures.
      • Ensure division is aligned with all federal, state, and local laws/regulations, including OSHA standards.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Five (5) years’ related experience in a manufacturing environment.
      • Working knowledge of safety management systems.
      • Previous leadership experience.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or similar field with 5+ years of experience.
      • 5+ years of safety compliance experience. Previous steel industry or manufacturing experience.
      • First Responder/EMT certification or willingness to obtain.
      • Industrial Hygiene and Behavior-based safety culture experience.
      • OSHA Voluntary Protection Program experience.
