      POSITION SUMMARY: Provide on-the-road and classroom training for new and current bus drivers to ensure drivers are certified and have required endorsements. Comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This position reports to the Coordinator of Transportation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides training to new and current transportation driver personnel, Bus operations, and Safety; evaluates the performance of drivers for certificate renewal; maintains required paperwork. Ride and observe drivers with or without students on board and to monitor driver related problems. Responds to accident as needed. Evaluates driver proficiency by administering developed on-the-road driving tests and re-training. Participates in providing regular in-service training. Promotes and fosters safety-related aspects for all drivers. Maintains drivers’ driving records according to requirements established by the Georgia Department of Driver Services and Department of Education. Audits and reviews driving records for compliance according to CCPS Transportation Department’s standard operating procedures. Evaluates preventable and non-preventable accidents and recommends appropriate disciplinary actions. Provides exceptional customer services to parents, staff, and stakeholders. Provides administrative support; filing, recordkeeping, answering phones, etc as needed. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services. KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School/General Education Diploma GED required. Knowledge of Federal and State Department of Transportation regulatory standards; make good sound judgment decisions and recommendations, which affect the activities of others. Valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passengers and School Bus Drivers Endorsements are preferred; and Department of Transportation Physical Certification. If CDL is not in possession of candidate, the CDL must be obtained within 6 months of the date of hire. Moderate level of judgment: supervisor is available to review established broad objectives; must approve general recommendations. Requires regular, frequent contact with internal/external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of moderate importance. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with inter-organizational teams. Requires excellent written, verbal, presentation, and training skills. Primarily field training (outdoors) Office setting as applicable. Subjected to a wide range of temperature. May be required to respond to accidents in the field. Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. NOTE: This is a grade 23, 225 day position.
