- Assist students and parents in identifying and accessing supportive services designed to improve the student’s academic performance.
- Connect families who are experiencing CRA-related issues to appropriate services.
- Provide information, referral and direct assistance for families, including meetings with teachers, assistance with Individual Education Plan / 504 Plan, and meetings with other school personnel, as necessary.
- Develop strong working relationships with school personnel to identify key needs and priorities of students and their parents and to become a resource to the schools and FRC staff as they work to meet students’ and parents’ educational and non-academic needs.
- Develop healthy working relationships with community stakeholders and attend school events and other community forums, as appropriate.
- Participate in day-to-day program service delivery.
- Develop and facilitate parenting education groups and independent workshops.
- Participate and plan events at the Family Resource Center.
- Distribute tangible goods to members, as needed.
- Attend School Liaison cohort meetings held by DCF, as well as other assigned meetings and taskforce forums.
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High energy level and demonstrated ability to function in a team atmosphere.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, conflict resolution and team building skills.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and current, active auto insurance, where applicable.
- Bilingual and/or Bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred.
NFI Massachusetts Inc., a non-profit human services agency, is currently seeking a School Liaison for our Family Resource Center (FRC) located in Lowell, MA. NFI Massachusetts Inc.
The Lowell FRC is a member of the Massachusetts Family Resource Center Network and is open to all individuals and families in the Greater Lowell Area, serving as a community hub in the heart of the downtown Lowell. The FRC provides a variety of services including family support, career support, mental health counseling, education support, Child Requiring Assistance (CRA) support, and more. We strive to be a kind, warm, and nurturing place for people to come in order to access the supports and resources tailored to their own unique individual/family needs. Our core services are psychoeducation classes and support groups but we have a small food pantry, hygiene products, and diaper bank available to the community as well. Our motto at the FRC is we can’t serve the community with an empty cup, so our team is incredibly supportive and provide an ample amount of training and coaching to help you build the competence and confidence you need to successfully fulfill your role! We value creative outlets and passions here at the FRC and provide opportunities for staff to bring ideas into workshops and beyond.
The School Liaison works closely with local school districts to help family members navigate educational needs, special education system, and school-related concerns and needs. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of child and youth development, understand the IEP/504 process for special education students, have excellent organization skills, will be a self-starter and team player, be strength-based, and have previous experience in case management or family support work. The School Liaison serves as a resource to families, schools and the community in improving overall student attendance and graduation rates, reducing truancy rates, identifying systemic issues, barriers, trends and needs, networking and disseminating information, designing solutions and expanding system capacity.
Status: Full time
Annual Salary: $55,000

Benefits for full time employees include: Medical Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Retirement Plan, 3 weeks paid vacation time, mileage compensation, and Tuition reimbursement up to $2500 per fiscal year which can be used towards trainings, continuing education, exam prep/materials, and licensure application/renewal costs. NFI coordinates licensing support and provides licensed supervision.
