      Description

      The ACES Security and Emergency Management Division is currently accepting applications for the position of School Security Officer. Prior Law Enforcement and/or Safety / Security, Corrections experience is highly preferred, but not required.

      Candidates are required to have fulfilled Connecticut security guard requirements. Must possess excellent communication skills, computer skills, a driver's license, and a sincere interest in the well-being of children and adults. Must be willing to work in a busy school environment and willing to maintain a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends during school events. The candidate will work closely with the security director and school administration to develop safe and secure campus facilities.

      Work hours for school positions are part-time and full-time: Hours to be determined. Security team reports to the ACES Director of Security

      Duties Include:

      • Greet, screen, record, and allow public visitors and employees admittance to school sites in accordance with established policies and procedures.
      • Monitor security systems and/or environmental systems and investigate and/or report any incidents.
      • Work with administration to implement systems of incident and emergency response including staff training and maintenance of emergency management plans.
      • Identify, engage, and report all unauthorized persons to the proper authorities, and initiate action to protect students, staff, parents, visitors, and district property.
      • Ensure the physical safety and security of the facility by enforcing agency policies and procedures
      • Provide a deterrent and detection factor for wrongful activity; conduct patrols and monitor the status of the physical security measures.
      • Identify, articulate and train school staff on security measures and preventative practices
      • Conduct walking patrols of the interior and exterior campus.
      • Document all security activity and generate incident reports as necessary.
      • Monitor facility equipment and alarms during tours and report equipment failure, reset alarms as instructed and/or assist in minor repair as directed.
      • Have the ability to answer and operate phones, radio communications, and other communication equipment to provide effective communication with facilities, operations, and emergency personnel.
      • Perform all other related duties as assigned by the director.

      Qualifications


      Applicants Must:

      • Be able to comfortably and diplomatically enforce ACES Governing Board and School policy and procedures.
      • Be proficient with computers and be able to use Microsoft Word, and select office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, printers, etc.
      • Have a positive attitude and be able to work independently, as well as be part of a team oriented community.
      • Be confident and competent in working with the general public
      • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interact with students, parents, and staff from all levels of the organization.
      • Maintain the ability to provide coverage for shifts with short notice, and work over-time on nights, weekends, and holidays from time to time.
      • Be able to work in a fast paced environment and the ability to prioritize important tasks.
      • Be able to maintain strict confidentiality of students rights under FERPA
