Job Description

- Advocate for students' education, safety and well being
- Provide individual and group counseling
- Assist with risk assessments and become familiar with the DSM 5
- Provide crisis intervention as needed
- Make home visits, when appropriate
- Collaborate with school-based staff and administrator
- Participation in Individual Education Program meetings as needed and assist in the development of intervention plans in which school social work services are appropriate
- Serve as a liaison and advocate for students and parents
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies
- Attend School Social Work meetings
Social Work Practicum for 2024-2025
The School Social Work Paraeducator provides school based interventions under the direction and supervision of a licensed masters’ social worker.
Essential Functions:
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to operate standard office equipment and software applications
Ability to perform basic math including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios
Ability to organize work, set priorities and meet deadlines
Knowledge of appropriate codes, policies, regulations and laws
Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices; age appropriate student activities; conflict resolution; stages of child development and behavior; basic disabilities; and behavioral management strategies.
Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data
Ability to communicate with tact and patience
Ability to diffuse confrontations
Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals
Ability to solve problems and assist with creating action plans
Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and to remain flexible and creative
Ability to work with frequent interruptions
Education, Certification
Bachelor's degree in related field
Requirement of current enrollment in a Masters of Social Work Program
Experience
Required successful completion of first year practicum in Masters of Social Work Program
Physical Demands, Working Environment
This position generally requires the following physical demands: occasional lifting and carrying up to twenty (20) pounds, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 15% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere.
