    • Description:
OAISD Young Adult Services (YAS) is seeking a school social worker (SSW) to support our adult students. This person will work across the continuum of post-secondary special education supports in Ottawa County. This work is focused mainly at YAS but also includes time at the Ottawa Area Center (OAC) and through Adult Education. This role is unique, fast-paced and challenging, but most importantly, fun.

Our SSWs work in tandem to support all post-secondary students with IEPs in Ottawa County. They are focused on larger systems and empowering staff, families, and students to manage mental health and behavioral challenges while still providing direct services. Our SSWs also serve as the district’s behavior coaches and are responsible for all aspects of behavior analysis, student and staff support related to behavior, and managing the FBA/PBSP process.

The characteristics that describe a strong SSW in this role are flexible, empathetic, independent, and organized.

Job Duties: The SSW at YAS will:

      • Provide direct services to students through individual, small group, and/or whole class lessons

      • Design, implement, and analyze systems that reflect best practices in behavior, social-emotional health, and positive behavior interventions and supports

      • Consult with building staff in how to support student behavior, social-emotional learning, or other needs

      • Coordinate the district’s PBIS system in each YAS building

      • Conduct threat and suicide-risk assessments as needed

      • Work with classroom teachers to problem-solve challenging behavior

      • Guide staff in how to collect, analyze and interpret data on student behaviors

      • Attend IEP meetings for students on consult or direct

      • Respond to student emergencies

      • Lead the FBA/PBSP team process

      • Be a member of the team that facilitates student movement across tiers or classrooms

      • Work with the referral team to ensure accurate placement of incoming students from local high schools and other special education programs

      • Plan and lead professional development for staff

      • Complete initial and re-evaluations for YAS, Adult Education, and the Ottawa Area Center

Location: The SSW serves all buildings that YAS operates across Ottawa County. YAS currently operates buildings in Holland, Hudsonville, Coopersville and Grand Haven. Though a regular schedule will be established, the SSW must be willing to be highly mobile and available in any locations at any given time.

Qualifications: Must have bachelors degree and masters of social work. School social work certification required. Candidates should have experience working with adults or high school students with disabilities in some capacity. Must have CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification (or be willing to obtain it).

Schedule: Full time, 200 days, 8 hours per day.

Compensation: $67,208 - $86,701 typical starting range, possibly higher based on experience and qualifications. Full benefits package included or cash in lieu of benefits.

Availability: This position is for the 2025/26 school year and will be available on July 1.
