      SCIB Associate, Credit Portfolio Manager

      Business area introduction

      The Active Credit Portfolio Management (ACPM) team manages the capital, funding and credit risks of Santander Corporate & Investment Banking across multiple geographies with the aim of driving better origination of risk and then optimising the risk/return of the balance sheet.

      Key activities

      ACPM contributes to material trades and actions which help the bank in meeting its capital targets. In particular the role would involve:

      • Structuring and on-going management of balance sheet synthetic securitisations across Banco Santander S.A., London Branch and the CIB franchise.
      • Ongoing investor/client management, providing support throughout the life of a trade and answering any queries.
      • Act as business lead, coordinating internally with other front office teams, middle/back office, legal, capital, finance, risk, compliance and regulatory – in London and Madrid.
      • Identification of potential assets to be hedged, whether due to credit concerns, line consumption or the low returns of the asset in question. Track impact of the actions of the team on the book.
      • Assisting in the creation of structured transactions to manage liquidity, funding, regulatory capital and/or credit.
      • Utilising available tools and new or existing products to improve the return of the Loan Book, in particular identifying low returning names to sell.
      • Following changes in the regulatory (CRR, Bank of England, ECB, etc) and industry (EBA, AFME, etc) environment which impact the bank and any structures we manage.
      • The role is an important influencing function in driving behavioural change in how the bank approaches origination, client returns and management of back book.
      • Analysis by the team may influence the assessment and reward of other employees.

      What we’re looking for

      Previous structured finance/ debt capital markets/ credit/ asset management experience in at least one of the following areas:

      • ACPM
      • Bank Regulation/Capital
      • Significant Risk Transfer
      • Economic capital
      • ALM Liquidity/funding management
      • Financial reporting
      • Financial modelling/manipulation of big data
      • Bank strategic planning
      • Credit analysis/ workouts
      • Portfolio management
      • Trading/origination
      • Credit lending
      • Structuring
      • Trustee reporting/Funds/SPVs/Securitisation

      Up-to-date knowledge of IT systems and data management tool to improve processes and intelligence within the team.

      Strong ethically, in particular identifying conflicts of interest that need to be managed in a balanced and impartial way.

      Good organisational skills required to plan and manage your time and coordinate people and processes.

      Ability to coordinate teams across many parts of bank to deliver complex transactions, including external customers such as regulators, rating agencies, investors, trustees, auditors and Corporate other service providers.

      Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and explain complex issues and apply knowledge across a very broad area.

      Accountancy/CFA/MBA or similar financial/banking qualifications &/or relevant work experience

      This role is based in our Triton Square office in London, conveniently located within walking distance from Euston Station and Warren Street Station.
