Department Overview:
Horizon High School is the only recovery high school in Wisconsin, in operation for over 18 years, and provides students with an alcohol- and drug-free school environment. We support high school students in recovery from substance use disorders (SUD), including those who may have co-occurring mental health disorders. We also support students at increased risk of SUD, e.g., with parents or siblings with SUD. The school fosters emotional, social, and academic growth for youth who would benefit from a student-centered learning environment with a student-to-teacher & counselor ratio of the 3:1.

1 Position Summary/Job Duties:
Seeking a part time science teacher (with high school math comfortability) for Horizon High School, a small alternative recovery/mental health high school in Madison, WI (3.5 miles west of campus, on University).
Desire someone who can design and implement hands-on STEM learning. Areas of study are flexible: astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics, life sciences, etc. The classroom includes students in grades 9-12, so we desire someone who can create a multi-leveled learning environment. We also need an extra hand with one-on-one math instruction in areas of geometry and algebra 1. Math curriculum development is not required.
Experience with alternative educational settings and teen mental health is a plus. 5-10 hours a week desired, but hours negotiable (school hours are 9-3). Salary negotiable depending upon experience.
