      Geriatric Mental Health Services - Research

      Position Description
      The Geriatric Mental Health Research Services (GMHRS) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, contract (12 months) Scientific Associate to provide leadership and support in data management, including clinical, neuropsychological and biomarker data, in particular EEG. In addition, the candidate will be expected to have experience with non-invasive brain stimulation.

      The candidate will report to the Principal Investigators of GMHRS . The position will require the individual to oversee the creation and ongoing management of large datasets, as well as apply advanced programming skills (in R/SPSS) to process and analyze data, including EEG data. The successful candidate will be expected to assist with study start-up (e.g., supporting ethics submissions, writing study protocols), work closely with GMHRS personnel to compile sensitive participant data, analyze data, co-supervise students and junior staff, produce manuscripts, and assist with grant writing.       In this position, you will be responsible for working both autonomously and in a team of research staff to achieve study targets. The successful candidate will be required to establish local collaborations, and provide practical training, supervision, and consultation of undergraduate, graduate, post-doctoral trainees, and research staff. Responsibilities will include:

      • Overseeing EEG data collection, cleaning and processing, including training other staff, students and trainees on these procedures
      • Overseeing database creation and ongoing management of data quality for the department
      • Assist with the conceptualization and writing of research grants to funding agencies such as CIHR
      • Perform literature searches and statistical analyses using statistics software, generate figures and graphics for manuscripts and presentations
      • Participate in the dissemination of research results through conference presentations and publications, and by helping trainees with these outputs as well
      • Assisting in the onboarding and training of new research staff and graduate students and ensuring all study staff have completed all appropriate training and training documentation is in place prior to carrying out study-specific tasks

      Qualifications:

      • The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in relevant discipline (e.g. health sciences) including three (3) years of relevant clinical research with Geriatric patients with psychiatric disorders and their families, as well as previous experience in an academic research setting
      • Extensive experience collecting, cleaning, and analyzing EEG data
      • Experience and familiarity with structured diagnostic interviewing (e.g. SCID, MINI), and clinical rating scales (e.g., PANSS, MADRS) is preferred.
      • Extensive experience creating and maintaining electronic databases for large, multisite studies using electronic platforms (e.g. REDCap)
      • Previous experience with non-invasive brain stimulation, including tDCS and TMS is an asset
      • Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analyses and related software is required (e.g. R, SPSS)
      • Previous experience in the grant application process is critical
      • Experience in providing support with research procedures to research teams in a fast-paced clinical setting is a strong asset
      • Experience with recruitment for multiple studies, maintaining study logs and coordination of studies is a requirement
      • Excellent communication skills (oral/written), along with the ability to establish positive, collaborate working relationships with team members and collaborators
      • The ideal candidate should have a strong record of scientific accomplishments (e.g. publications), complemented by strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
      • Superior organizational skills along with analytical and problem solving skills are required
      • Excellent communication skills (oral/written), along with the ability to establish positive, collaborate working relationships with team members and collaborators
      • The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and produce high-quality, accurate work in a fast-paced environment, while meeting deadlines
      • Experience working with older adults with cognitive impairment

      Please Note: This full-time, contract (12 months) position is NOT a part of any bargaining unit.
