- Build internal structural biology capabilities and infrastructure appropriate to support GSK Vaccines and Pharma programs.
- Develop and implement external innovation strategies to enhance structural biology approaches through CROs and academic partnerships to advance the internal portfolio and complement internal capabilities.
- Provide leadership and expertise in protein biochemistry, structural biology and computational design as essential components of structure-based design efforts and platform evolution.
- Develop design strategies, screening funnels and other mechanistic studies to support lead identification, validation, and progression.
- Be fully integrated in cross-functional project and core teams, making substantial intellectual contributions to all levels of program strategy.
- Lead research activities and meetings.
- Stay scientifically cutting edge and identify emerging science to advance the portfolio and educate other colleagues.
- Be a scientific leader and mentor.
- PhD. in a structural biology related field
- Five years or more experience in industry, post doctoral, or government lab setting.
- Good knowledge and understanding of GSK Vaccines and Pharma strategy and objectives, regulatory requirements, as well as competition intelligence and intellectual property aspects. Ability to integrate this knowledge in decisions and recommendations.
- Practical expertise in cryo-EM/cryo-ET and other biochemical and biophysical methods.
- Strong track record of publication in peer reviewed journals, or patent filing.
- Experience of scientific leadership to influence programs of research.
- Excellent communication skills, need to appropriately manage the interfaces with Project Teams
- Fluency in English
- Able to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priority and timeline restrictions.

The US Structural Biology Center of Excellence (CoE), a new joint Vaccines and Pharma Center, will be established in Cambridge, MA in 2024. The mission of the CoE is to apply the full range of structural biology, biochemistry, and computational tools to design antigens, RNAs, delivery systems, and formulations for Vaccines as well as to design antibodies, biologics, and small molecules for Specialty Medicines and Oncology products.
We’re looking for a passionate and highly motivated scientific leader with demonstrated success in structural biology to join the CoE. The successful candidate will be an accomplished vaccine or medicine hunter and have utilized state-of-the-art expertise in cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography, driving discovery programs with structural information. The position will require active collaboration with diverse teams to work together and address key discovery challenges with the best scientific insights possible.
