      About the Position
      The Polymer Science and Technology team is responsible for identifying, developing, and industrializing new polymer and chemical technologies to support Goodyear’s performance and sustainability goals of the future. Associates work with cross functional teams and production to establish performance and manufacturability targets for tires and tire components. In conducting their work, associates may be responsible for developing and directing external collaborations, and projects are often conducted on a global basis where activities are coordinated through an international technical organization.

      The Associate Scientist will be responsible for executing new polymer and chemical development projects, as well as providing additional chemical expertise as needed to support Goodyear Chemical manufacturing plants and industrialization of new polymer or chemical products.

      Primary Responsibilities

      • Executes laboratory work, including chemical synthesis, to support new material / technology development to improve tire performance, manufacturing, and cost according to business defined goals and long-term strategy.
      • Makes improvements to or enhances current processes within Polymer Science & Technology team. Leads and directs experimental tests, collects, and summarizes data, and performs literature searches seeking solutions to problems.
      • Provides technical support to internal departments including tire compounding, Quality, and Goodyear Chemical plants.
      • Applies and interprets standard scientific theories, concepts, and techniques. Uses collaboration to solve problems and make improved business decisions.
      • Compiles data for the preparation of reports and presentations and completes assignments in a timely manner under the supervision of a senior scientist.

      Required Education and Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
        • Master’s degree in chemistry or related field preferred.
      • 2+ years’ experience in in scientific field is recommended but not required.

      Skills and Abilities

      • Basic understanding of scientific principles in the appropriate discipline.
      • Basic ability to carry out assignments in a logical fashion using standard apparatus and methods.
      • Basic organization, communication, and experimentation skills.
