      ROLE SUMMARY

      Pfizer’s BioMedicine Design (BMD) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced protein biochemist to join the high-energy and dynamic Biotherapeutic Expression and Purification group (BEP), which is responsible for generating non-GMP protein drug leads to support various Pfizer research units and their in-vitro and in-vivo needs in pre-clinical development. Qualified candidate will play an essential role in cross-functional team and will be responsible for processing of mammalian- and bacterial-expressed recombinant protein modalities including, but not limited to multispecific antibodies and conjugation of payloads to the antibodies, using state-of-the-art technologies and equipment. The candidate will contribute to the group-wide deliverables in highly collaborative environment and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group and project team meetings.

      ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Support the development of scalable protein purification processes, and ensure timely delivery of highly purified biotherapeutic candidates to discovery project teams
      • Assess quality of biotherapeutics rigorously and review all analytical documentation prior to protein release
      • Routinely provide updates at project meetings
      • Proactively evaluate new technologies and implement new features and functionality into discovery pipeline
      • Drive technology innovation. Maintain knowledge of scientific trends industry processes through readings, conferences and seminars; review literature to advance manufacturing procedures and methods
      • Will be involved in the design and execution of projects with the ability to operate independently
      • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, transient expression and stable cell line development groups, engineering leads, and R&D project leaders

      BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

      • MS with 3+ years or BS with 5+ years of relevant experience in Biochemistry, Biology, Biological Engineering or a related discipline along with a solid understanding of protein purification
      • Hands-on experience with protein purification (using affinity and traditional chromatographic techniques) on AKTA chromatography systems, including operating Unicorn and OpenLab CDS software packages.
      • Hands-on experience with protein conjugation
      • Hands-on experience with analytical biochemistry and experience in protein analytical characterization, including mass spectrometric analysis of protein
      • Able to work effectively in cross functional teams to solve process development problems or implement improved procedures
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills
      • Organized, detail oriented, multi-task, and remain flexible with changing needs
      • Must be self-motivated and able to work under strict timeline

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Prior industry experience in antibody purification
      • Experience with DOE concepts and tools
      • Python and/or VB experience

      PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

      Involves typical bioprocessing lab activities

      Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs

      Standing for prolonged periods of time, walking, bending, and using tools

      Ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis

      The annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,900.00 to $124,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
