      Overview

      Position Summary:

      Performs a broad range of laboratory work requiring application of professional judgment in the selection of specialized methods and techniques, and their application to specific tasks.

      Responsibilities

      Key Accountabilities

      Essential Functions:

      • Understands the application of the scientific method to experimental design and problem solving; applies knowledge and experience to solve a variety of laboratory problems; communicates results, problems, and progress to supervisor.
      • Schedules own activities in accordance with assignments and priorities; detects problems in routine procedures caused by instrument difficulties, or in reagent preparation and/or handling; suggests modifications in protocols and/or methods.
      • Understands general requirements and approach for completion of broad objectives. May be required to define intermediate objectives.
      • Schedules specific tasks, performs tasks and analyzes data; provides input in the interpretation of data; collates results, prepares reports and assesses progress relative to objectives.
      • Maintains accurate, precise, and legible laboratory notebooks; writes reports and communicates progress periodically.
      • Achieves broader professional judgment and experience through periodic training and continuing scientific literature review.
      • Able to handle broad assignments and objectives involving multiple tasks; applies experimental design principles; recommends improvements in routine analytical methods.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned.

      • Must be capable of applying general scientific methods and theoretical knowledge to tasks within one area of expertise.

      Qualifications

      Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:

      Education:
      • Knowledge acquired through a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
      Experience:
      • Bachelor’s plus 3 years of relevant experience or
      • Master’s plus 1 year of relevant experience

      Additional Skills/Knowledge:

      • Strong oral and written communication skills.
      • Duties require broad use and application of scientific principles, theories and concepts in field of expertise.
      • Must demonstrate the ability to perform all duties and responsibilities higher than Scientist I level.
