- Perform a variety of controlled environment experiments to elucidate the mode of action for crop physiological traits and microbes within the Plant Biotechnology pipeline and for partner functions;
- Use prior training, specialized knowledge, current and pertinent scientific literature in relevant technologies, and consultation with other subject-matter experts to lead and/or contribute to research projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property, or trade secrets;
- Design, develop, and interpret complex experiments, research, and/or technology-driven proposals for testing of plants to more efficiently evaluate the impact of traits, gene edits, biologicals, and/or chemistries on plant growth and development and/or nutrient usage efficiency under greenhouse or growth chamber conditions
- Be accountable for cross-functional work in multiple platforms;
- Be the primary author for scientific reports;
- Possibly assume project leadership and/or supervisory functions;
- Optimizes workflows and validates methods in collaboration with statisticians, imaging specialists, data scientists, and/or other technical experts;
- Solve complex problems autonomously requiring original thinking, creativity, and deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles on the design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
- Prioritize and coordinate work within a matrixed testing environment maintaining detailed record keeping and required documentation;
- Achieve commitment to safety and compliance, adhering to safety protocols and best practices;
- Thrive on meeting challenges, insist on high quality deliverables, work and solve problems independently, and have proven ability to influence others outside of direct management line to accomplish key goals.
- Ph.D. degree;
- Practical experience designing and implementing experiments to evaluate plant phenotype and growth, nutrient utilization, and/or yield components under controlled environments (greenhouses, growth chambers, etc.);
- Experience working in highly collaborative environment and effectively communicating research findings with audiences from diverse technical backgrounds;
- Experience performing plant phenotyping using automated or imaging techniques;
- Proficiency with data analysis, visualization software, and interpreting results from complex statistical designs;
- Strong cross-cultural sensitivity.
- Ph.D. with preferred relevant experience in Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Crop Science, Weed Science, Plant Pathology, or closely related Life Science degree;
- Three years of relevant experience;
- Prior experience with statistical analysis and data visualization using R and/or Python.

The Scientist II works collaboratively with other lab team members to deliver daily and weekly targets under tight deadlines, identify opportunities for system or process improvements, operate automation and perform experiments.
