      The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Pharmacology/Toxicology Chair's Office, is seeking a is seeking a Scientist III who can develop and expand his research interests by performing research, publishing manuscripts, writing grant proposals and training trainees and students.

      General Responsibilities

      • To interpret, organize, execute and coordinate research assignments.
      • To formulate and conduct research on problems of considerable scope and complexity.
      • To explore subject area and define scope and selection of problems for investigation through conceptually related studies or series of projects of lesser scope.

      Key Duties & Responsibilities

      1. Plan, coordinate and conduct scientific research.
      2. Design and perform experiments and collect data.
      3. Train and supervise trainees/employees.
      4. Manage the laboratory.
      5. Share and present data.
      6. Prepare and submit manuscripts.
      7. Prepare and submit research grant applications.
      8. Maintain equipment and software; troubleshoot and report issues.
      9. Order and maintain lab supplies.
      10. Perform other duties as assigned.

      Annual Salary Range $80,300.00 - $133,300.00

      • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and six (6) years of related experience
      • OR M.D. and Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience

      Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

      Preferences

      • PhD in Biological Sciences plus 7 years research experience in neuronal cell death and stroke.
      • Experience with identifying cell death signaling in brain in neuronal injury and neurodegenerative diseases, aiming at identifying novel therapeutics.
