At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

The Lilly Genetic Medicine (LGM) team is looking for talented and motivated scientists to join our Innovation Hub in Cambridge, MA before moving to the Seaport District in Boston starting Aug 1st, 2024. We pursue cutting-edge research in a highly interdisciplinary environment to enable the next generation of nucleic acid innovation. These technologies will expand the impact of our existing pipeline in small-interfering RNAs (siRNA) and our emerging pipeline in additional nucleic acid modalties. We work in collaboration with colleagues across Lilly Genetic Medicine and therapeutic areas (e.g., Neuroscience).

The successful candidate will have a strong hands-on background in wet lab biology to support nanomedicine-related research including but not limiting to nanoparticle formulation, flow cytometry, molecular endpoints, bioconjugate chemistry, in vitro assays, gel-based characterization and cell-based assays. Additionally, they should be systematic and analytically-minded while embracing and supporting an open, communicative, and collaborative work environment. The scientist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to perform experiments to aid characterization and development of nucleic acid delivery strategies for the next generation of genetic therapies. We welcome deep thinkers, fast learners, and team players. Do you have an aptitude for innovative approaches focused on identifying impactful therapies for the patient? We want you on our team!

      Responsibilities:

      • Formulate and characterize novel formulations for RNA nanoparticles (e.g. small, ultra-small formulation batches, DLS, chromatography)
      • Support flow cytometry evaluation of RNA nanoparticles
      • In vitro evaluation of nucleic acid formulation (e.g. mammalian cell culture, transfection, cell assay, etc.)
      • Molecular endpoint study for nucleic acid formulation (e.g. qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, etc.)
      • Optimize existing characterization methods and processes and generate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test method documents
      • Communicate research and development findings with internal and external partners
      • Operate instruments and assist in maintaining general lab functionality, including equipment and inventory maintenance.
      • Procedure optimization, data analysis, and result presentation.
      • Collaboration with colleagues in the Lilly Genetic Medicine team and therapeutic areas

      Basic Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, neuroscience or related field.
      • 3+ years hands-on laboratory work experience in formulation science, molecular endpoint, molecular endpoints or nanomedicine. Experience working with nanomedicine is strongly preferred.

      Core Competencies:

      • Discipline/Rigor/Reliability Associate pays attention to the details of procedures, methods, study plans, and objectives to ensure high quality work, reliable execution of experimental plan, minimization of errors, and compliant documentation.
      • Technical Expertise (Depth) Associate strives to develop and expand their fundamental understanding of the technical processes under their responsibility. Utilizes this comprehension to troubleshoot and improve procedures when needed.
      • Teamwork/Communication Associate communicates effectively with colleagues, sharing experimental details and scientific updates in a straightforward and understandable manner. Participates (as listener and contributor) in relevant scientific discussion. Shares in the workload of the team, contributing as needed.
