TITLE: Scientist
LOCATION: South San Francisco, CA
HOURS: Full-Time; Mon-Fri (40 hours/week)
DUTIES: Execute routine drug discovery research experiments independently by applying techniques of molecular and cellular biology, communicate results to team members and is involved in the interpretation of data. Support teams and work collaboratively with project managers to ensure the efficient relay of information and forward translation of data. Assess and report data, in a clear and concise manner, with a clear understanding of its implications within the overall context of drug discovery. Communicate and share information between distinct projects within the bioscience function and across other functions. Ensure work is compliant with Good Laboratory Practice, Safety, Health and Environment standards and all other relevant internal AstraZeneca standards and external regulations.
REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Biology or a related field plus five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the position offered, as an Associate Scientist or in a related position. Must have five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with each of the following: Designing and conducting laboratory project and experiments including maintaining and conducting mammalian cell cultures; Developing immunoassays including ELISA with a focus on pharmacological profiling to support drug discovery; Performing molecular assays including cloning, RT-PCR and sequencing for gene signature identification within various diseases; Conducting protein assays including protein expression, protein purification and characterization using western blot, UV-spectrometry, and dynamic light scattering; and Performing data analysis on MS office, GraphPad PRISM, Image J, TIBCO Spotfire Analyst to communicate results across different functions. In the alternative, employer will accept a Master’s degree in a stated field of study plus two (2) years of experience. Any combination of education, experience or training is acceptable. Pre-or-post Master’s degree experience is acceptable.

The annual base salary (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $103,078.07 - $119,900. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
