      Summary of the group

      The Biologics Engineering (BE) department at AstraZeneca is constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We’re using our expertise in biologics engineering to enable novel therapeutic approaches to Oncology, Respiratory, Inflammatory, Cardiovascular and Infectious disease.       This opportunity

      The Department of Biologics Engineering in Gaithersburg, MD is seeking a talented and highly motivated Scientist to enhance our T cell receptor (TCR) discovery platform. The successful candidate will help build the next-generation discovery engine to rapidly isolate novel TCRs for use as oncology therapeutics. We are seeking a candidate with expertise in conducting in vitro assays to identify tumor specific T cells. The candidate will operate independently and in collaboration with a diverse group of scientists to actively drive technological innovations. The selected individual will be a well-organized and a highly productive bench scientist that can design and execute experiments efficiently, as well as analyze, interpret and present data to multidisciplinary project teams.

      Required Education/Experience

      B.S. in cell biology, molecular biology or other related discipline with 5+ years experience

      OR

      M.S. in cell biology, molecular biology or other related discipline with 0-2 years of relevant research experience in an academic setting.

      Required skills

      • Expertise in primary mammalian cell culture including human T cells and T cell expansion
      • Strong background in functional T cell assays, cytokine profiling assays, T cell cytotoxicity assays, flow cytometry and cell sorting
      • Experience in genetically modifying T cells
      • The individual should have demonstrated experience in optimizing/troubleshooting new protocols with a problem-solving mindset and be adept at learning new platforms and skills.
      • Ability to troubleshoot, optimize and execute experiments independently

      Desired skills

      • Molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, PCR, Sanger sequencing
      • Background in immunotherapy development/T cell biology in a biotech/pharma setting

      Special Skills / Abilities / Knowledge / Behavioral Competencies

      Strong communication skills are highly desirable. The individual should also be self-motivated, embrace new technologies and have demonstrated an ability to work within teams.
