- Provides general information, application forms, and declaration forms.
- Explains policies, procedures, and requirements to applicants to apprise them of their rights and responsibilities.
- Performs initial application interview for public assistance programs and services.
- Ensures accuracy and completion of application and declaration forms.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Two (2) years of full-time experience performing clerical office support duties, including one (1) year at the journey level. Experience must have included substantial public contact.
- Requires a valid California driver’s license.
- Requires current, less than one (1) year old, valid typing certificate.
Must pass a Merit Systems Services written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test or other appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.

What Will You Do? :
The Screener assists applicants for public assistance programs; explains policies and procedures; gathers and verifies facts and information; initiates cases through an automated system; makes appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services; and performs related work as required.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Screener (Merit) or Screener - Bilingual Incentive (Merit), as well as subsequent vacancies, which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Bilingual incentive pay is +7.5% above the Screener rate.New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range.
