      Job Description:

      The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon State Hospital (OSH), has a fantastic opportunity for a Seamster to join our Salem team to provide mending and sewing services to the patients and staff of the hospital.

      The Oregon State Hospital provides patient-centered, psychiatric treatment for adults from throughout the state who need hospital-level care. Our primary goal is to help people recover from their illness and return to the community.       What will you do?

      As a Seamster, you will perform the following duties:

      • Measure, construct, mend, hem, and alter patient clothing to specifications.

      • Make patterns and construct specialty items to customer specifications.

      • Process material requisitions and work orders for clothing items.

      • Issue new and used clothing articles to patients.

      • Receive, store, and display new and used items.

      • Conduct inventory and replenish clothing items to meet the required quantities needed per unit.

      • Sort cleaned state issued returned clothing and restock displays.

      • Assist patients and direct care staff in the selection of clothing.

      • Input information into computer database.

      • Keep and maintain related files and records as well as submit required reports.

      • Prepare necessary forms or inform purchasing staff of low stock for reorders.

      • Provide services to the Junction City Campus.

      • Perform other duties as assigned.

      What are we looking for?

      Minimum Qualifications

      Two years of experience or training in sewing which included design and alteration of patterns, mending, patching, and repairing garments and linens.

      NOTE: Please include your "lived" or personal sewing experience in your application or resume OR you can describe it in a cover letter. Be sure to include your experience in design and alteration of patterns, mending, patching, and repairing garments and linens.

      Requested Skills

      • Preference will be given to experienced seamsters with extensive sewing and alterations experience.

      • Knowledge and/or experience in inventory control.

      • Knowledge and/or experience sorting clothing.

      • Experience with accurate computer data entry.

      • Must be flexible to change priorities and work schedules for optimal performance and service to patients and staff.

      • Must have a driver’s license with good driving record or an alternate form of transportation to travel between the Salem and Junction City campuses.
