      The Role:

      This is a 6-month fixed term, full time role based at Puckapunyal Military Base. This Seasonal Firefighter role will see you providing range management services to the Defence Force and is a crucial component in ensuring the live-fire ranges are used safely.
      Duties & responsibilities:

      • Undertake first response bush firefighting activities.
      • Maintain and Operate Range Live Fire Target Equipment.
      • Ensure adherence to Range Standing Orders and report any identified breaches immediately to range Control.
      • Undertake Land management activities including but not limited to grass cutting, weed spraying and mapping.
      • Assist the Range Supervisor with HSE Site Inspections, Job Analysis and safety Observations.

      What you’ll need to be successful:

      • Computer skills including Word & Excel experience – desirable.
      • Ability to use tools specific to range operations and maintenance processes including (but not limited to) power tools and chain saws.
      • Experience in radio communication, both on handheld and vehicle mounted radios (PUAOPE002B – Operate communication systems and equipment).
      • Demonstrate ability to read and navigate using a map and compass including highly competent in map to ground navigation from a vehicle.
      • Manual vehicle drivers’ licence.
      • Heavy vehicle licences - Medium Rigid (MR) and/or Heavy Rigid (HR)
      • Certificate in First Aid (desirable).
      • Firefighting qualifications as follows:
        • PUATEA001B - Work in a team,
        • PUAFIR215 - Prevent Injury,
        • PUAFIR204B - Respond to wildfire,
        • PUAOPE013A - Operate communications systems and equipment,
        • PUAEQU001B - Prepare, maintain and test response equipment.
        • PUARFIR204B - Respond to Wildfire.
