      Job Summary

      Under the general supervision of a Landscape Supervisor, this position performs tasks of a general nature involving physical effort. This position may operate landscaping equipment and tools on a continuous basis and performs other garden maintenance activities as necessary.

      Organizational Status

      Seasonal Labourer within the Municipal Services Unit of Facilities. Reports to the Head Landscape Technologist in the unit.

      Work Performed

      Assists with the maintenance of landscapes and other general labour duties using specialized equipment and physical effort including lawn and garden bed maintenance and development. Performs general duties related to landscaping and other tasks not requiring specialized skills.

      Operates light, medium and heavy vehicles and special landscaping equipment(including, but not limited to, line trimmers, lawn mowers, backpack blowers).

      Requests and receives tools, equipment and material for the work assigned.

      Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

      Consequence of Error/Judgement

      Determines the most efficient and effective way to operate equipment to perform work; incorrect decisions result in minor delays.

      Works under general supervision and from oral and written instructions and according to established procedures.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Secondary school education and/or completion of high school, valid BC driver’s license or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

      Preferred Qualifications

      Satisfactory driving record. Ability to work at heights and lift a minimum of 50lbs and work in all weather conditions. Ability to follow policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Ability to provide quality service to customers in a courteous, patient manner. Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
